That looks like the area that the set screws that clamp the outer turret make contact with so those marks would be normal.
That's 100% from the grub screws biting into the brass.

Was it a demo? Almost looks like someone gave the turret a spin after it had reached the it's end of travel.
As long as the set screws are able to firmly bite into the brass without spinning, you shouldn't have any issues.
I bet if you grab it with some side cutters you'll be able to turn it.Also, i tried to figure out how the outer/inner turret worked. I tried to turn the brass knob with the outer turret removed, but i couldent turn it. Shouldent i be able to make clicks on the turret, by turning the brass knob with the outer turret removed, if its only the 3 screws that makes contact to the inner turret?
No, it was brand new and sealed.
I bet if you grab it with some side cutters you'll be able to turn it.
I understand wanting to know how things work, but rest assured, that is what you're turning with the turret. No need to grab it with side cutters.
I'd be worried if you COULD turn the brass with your fingers.
Trust me. EVERYONE has them.
Let it die.
It's 100% normal. It's why the groove is cut in it, and why it's made out of soft brass. So the screws bite into it.
DUDE! You're screwing steel into BRASS! You can scratch brass with your fingernail.
