Despite being from the 4th bn 9th inf Reg (5th was the best of course) he was there about the same time as I was, recognized my avatar and 50 below cert...

I was in the Alaska NG from 1973 to 1992, first in the 38th SF Company (until it was disbanned in 76) and then the 207th Recon Det (ABN) for most of my career, then a couple stints as a Company Commander in a couple of the Scout BNs in the Nome area. Finished my career running the marksmanship unit.

Got more then my share of jumps at 40 below and worse. Worse I remember was in about 75 or 76 Jumping in Galena at 72 Below.

I have been to Galena in the dead of winter it sucks but is pretty in its way. Welcome to the hide always nice to hear about jack frost brim frost and the others. Now and then in western Alaska we have Army and Marine teams who come out to the bush and build or do medical service in the remote villages.I am leaving Alaska to build a mini farm in Kentucky and will miss it. I think its a place you never really get out of your system.I will be back up in the summer when the heat gets too much.Kim
