Anytime they speak on this a critical thinking person would say "Thats racist as fuck, demeaning and dehumanizing!"

The problem is the "critical thinking" modifier for "person" is rare.

you 'test poorly' when you haven't done the work.

Not exactly. having suffered from Dyslexia, and having taught special education, and worked with people of mental retardation my entire working life; I know first hand that NO amount of work can overcome a lack of talent or ability.

The problem is the test. Making young people who have talent in art or history, test the same as exceptional STEMM students is a travesty. Almost stupid. We even had to test people with IQ’s well below 50 take the same test that students with exceptional iQ’s took and the school’s score suffered because of it. And, students with lack of skills, who dig hard, work their tails off and manage to graduate after five and maybe even six years Also Hurt the Schools scores. You cannot imagine some of their answers, but they tried. The (end of year) test is plainly STUPID!!!

Now the Real Problem with Average students, not testing well, not doing their work, goes back the the parents. often single parents, often parents who are more interested in their business interested and recreational interests (read between the lines, these interests are not exactly legal).

The solutions, get families back together. Now I know a tremendous number of single mothers, who’s progeny are scared within an inch of their life of what mom will do If they step one thousandth of an inch out of line. We need to get the welfare system fixed. Currently it rewards single moms and rewards them to have more and more children, regardless of the care that mom gives. (Usually the older children have to rear the younger children because the “mom“ is overwhelmed with her multiple children. ). Still having a mom and dad in the home is, normally, a far better solution, than even the best of the single mom situations.

So, no, poor testing is not always the result of laziness or outside (read drug) interests.

But the point of education is to teach math, reading and writing to the very best of one’s ability. The only way to determine that this goal has been accomplished is weekly testing followed up with six or 9 weeks testing to determine long term retention.
