What 22lr Repeater Most Mimics an AI AE?

Outside of the stock, what 22LR repeater has the most similar relative positions of bolt and trigger and would be the most similar in operation to an AI AE rifle- and be accurate enough to be relevant as a training tool?

Just looking for repeater options, without going to Surge's GAP'ed Hall action in an AICS, in place of a 40X in an AICS stock.

A 40xb repeater. Should fit . But the mag would be hard to release. Or even to reach in an AICS

Opps, and forgot to add- has to be attainable, for less than $2000. From what I've heard the XB repeaters would be the way to go but they are out of production and about $3500 used, not that I have ever seen one for sale. I was thinking of common commercial actions out there that can be obtianed with a quest.

i got the action and several mags. No trigger or barrel. The Stiller 25x will be out when the bolts arrive. Should be late Winter Febuary. But you will have the same Mag problem

+1 on this.

Additionally, I seem to recall that there was a member here a while back that modified one of the (cough, COUGH) airsoft replica AICS chassis setups for use with a bolt action .22LR for a "Trainer" project. You might try running a search of the Hide and see what comes up and if you can make the project happen for your needs, budget constraints, etc. If I recall, it has been done now with an Anschutz 64 and a Savage MkII (perhaps other rifles as well, but those two come to mind).

Pat- I saw that, nice way to work it. The cheapest I've seen a Airsoft folding stock is at Evike for like $250 or so.

I was trying to get the mechanics down first and then see if I could shoe horn in the action. It seems like it would be easier to mill the chassis for a top notch action rather than trying to shoehorn in the closest action.

It seems that almost any rimfire can be put into the AICS chassis with enough bravery and a Dremel tool. I was try to concentrate on what action would give the best simulation of the AE and then go from there.

'Surge' is the name of the guy here on the Hide that has the GAP rifle made by Moon that has a Hall action. I contacted GAP and George gave me a rough estimate- about as much as one of their custom rifles- and when you think about it the action, barrel, trigger are all about the same price as full size gear. And that deosn't include grinding the Hall action to fit the AICS and the new bottom metal that is needed for the modified Finn mags.

I'm still just thinking that I need to start with the action that is:

-ergonomically set up like an AE (I assume trigger, bolt, safety geometry)
-Accurate enough replicate in minature a 308 on a reduced range set-up

Fitting into a AICS chassis would be secondary, since it seems most anything can be shoe-horned in.

Just looking at actions online that seem to have the same geometry and needed accuracy I'd say-

CZ 455- geometry looks OK, easy to find mags, relatively cheap, swappable barrels and Lilja coming out with a replacement barrel. Sounds like the trigger would need some work. The CZs seem to be pretty standard fare. Does one lug make a difference?

Sako Quad Four- more expensive, swappable barrel, look pretty close to AE ergonomics. Is Sako going out of business or not going to be imported anymore??

Anshutz 64 seems like it might be the best out of the box. Most accurate of the three?

I think you have a youtube video up about the rifle too? Did you buy the stock new or used from somewhere.

Would you say that the 64MPR mimics the real thing pretty well? It looks like the trigger and bolt handle are pretty similar. Is by the safety the only place you had to dremel the skins?

Any chance of more info or pictures on the block your buddy machined and your fine tuning. That looks pretty sweet.

I wonder why AI hasn't come out with a chassis version for a trainer?

Nope I don't have a youtube video up on that rifle. The stock I bought new from Airsoft GI. I was going to use the rifle with my step-son but it didn't shoot very well. So I decided to put the action in the stock.
As for the 64 compaired to the AI action, I can't answer that. I have never shot a AI rifle. I do have a GA built 700 in a AICS. The stock of the airsoft gun is so close to the AI you can swap the skins on each other and they fit with out a problem. The body is completley different though.
The bolt throw will be a lot shorter on the 64 vs the AI. Triggers are probally pretty close.
I will post some more pics of the block when I get a chance.
Oh, and yeah the only place I had to dremel was under the bolt handle.

crap, the itch is bigger than I thought. Waiting on getting one on the bay this week and starting the projet for my Izhmash 7-2 Biathlon.

Does the stock have a hollow feel? I'm thinking if it is that I'll use some marine expanding foam...it's heavy but will work.

My stock doesn't have a hollow feel to it. The cheaper airsoft AI stocks do and are very different then then one that i used.

Get something with a great trigger, a smooth action, and a reputation for accuracy (Anschutz comes to mind) and shoot the shit out of it. Quit worrying about all the ergonomics crap because you want something that honestly just doesn't exist for your price range. "Trainers" don't HAVE to mimic their centerfire counterparts to the T. In fact it's better if they don't because then you will be used to two rifles. Expanding your horizons and being comfortable behind multiple rifles is so much better than only being good behind one rifle.

This goes back to the "why put a 6-800+ dollar stock on a 3-400 dollar rifle?" debate. Few people are willing to pay such a high amount of money for their rimfire rifles to mimic the big calibers.

Yep, I figured one of the best replicators of an AE would a Rem700 action and the best replicator of that would be a ... Rem700 40XB.

I'm still going to mess around with the idea, but I realized I have a bunch of unfinished gun projects that I need to complete before I get my wife's eyes rolling again. I had myself all talked into a Annie 64MPR, but I thought I'd wade into the waters rather than jump in with a lead weight. Thanks everyone for input, I'll probably scrounge around for an Airsoft 2.0 AICS and procede from there. I think the idea is really viable and maybe even marketable, but when you start thinking about 3D scanning and CNCing-when you have no clue what you are talking about, discretion is the better part of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

Any day without a Dremel tool is a good day....
