I am starting to reload for my 30-06 that I will use mostly for whitetail deer hunting, but may up it to bear in the future. I'm just wonding if some of you can share what projectiles you have used in your reloads for this caliber, and what results you've had after the shot.

thanks, Jim

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

Nosler 165 Ballistic tips have been a DRT success for 3 different 30-06 users I have loaded them for. No nee to go crazy fast either, they will almost expand in humid air. Great bullet and use data you have on 168's and its a quick and easy work up from there, if at all.

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

Im a fan of the accubonds in my 30-06 for hunting. I killed my first elk with a 165gr Accubond moving close to 2800fps at the muzzle. Whitetail are softer than elk though and accubonds arent really needed, ballistic tips hammer deer. My dad uses 150gr Ballistic tips with a load of H4350 at or close to max and he has yet to have one take a step.
I would probably use 165gr Ballistic Tips for deer and than load 165gr Accubonds for bear. It should be about the same load, since the bullets are almost exactly the same.

I shoot alot of cast bullets in my Remington 700 mostly 175gr and 200gr but I have been working alot with 250gr cast at close to 2200fps and I will probably be using that if I draw an antelope tag this year.

IMR/H4895, H4350, and H4831sc get burned alot in my four 30-06's

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

I use Hornady SST and GMX bullets in 150gr
Been meaning to try the 110gr barnes ttsx bullets in my 06. The factory loads are 3400fps! Would be a nice flat shooter inside 500yds

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

The 168 TSX is a fucking hammer, as is the 208 Amax....

This past season I took four shots and made four clean kills with the 190 SMK:

15 yards, point of the shoulder, slam dunk, like a Mack truck hit him.

289 yards, white throat patch, nearly severed the head.

498 yards, double lungs, staggered about five yards and fell over, lights out.

602 yards, double lung, ran a 30 foot circle, with a lot of right hand spin drift, fell over lights out in her own hair laying on the ground.

Deer ain't hard to kill with a 30-06..........

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

180gr. sierra game kings for my bolt gun, and 180gr. hornady interlock spire point for my semi auto. If I want to use a 150'ish grain bullet I just use my 308 win and save a few grains of powder for the same performance.

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

I'm going bear hunting tomorrow with my Rem.700 and using 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips.....we'll see what happens up in the Sierra Madre mountains. I forgot to mention they drop a white tail just like hitting a cow in the head with a sledge hammer! I shot a eight point buck in the neck which broke his neck and dropped him dead in his tracks. Another one was a heart lung shot and the heart was gone and lungs looked like a bowl of bad buritto filling! The lungs were pulp!

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

I use the GMX's for larger game and yes I use the core lokt's also and the gun loves them, does well on lighter skinned game out in west Texas.

I have about 150 rounds of once fired brass 30-06 if you need some for your reloading. You pay for shipping and you can have them, just want them to go to a good home

Re: what 30-06 projectiles do you use

I use 165gr Nosler Accubonds with IMR 4350 I've had outstanding results so far. They have performed well enough I'm loading them in 25-06 and 7mm as well.
