What 308 AR should I get

Picked up the new SASS tonight from my FFL, while waiting for it I found a new LGS that had a LMT 16, a POF 6 nad the Sig 16, man the LMT and POF have some smooth actions. The DPMS recoil spring sounds loud in the action compared to the smoothness of the LMT.I will have a range report this weekend.

Put about 200 rounds down range today, most were 147 ball reloads I bought from a company in GA, they shot all over, switched to my own 168 smk pushed by 42 gr RL 15 and they were shooting from 1 MOA to 0.75 MOA, then switched to my bolt 308 reloads in 175 SMK with 43 gr Varget they shot about 1 MOA or just over, I am a happy camper. Forgot camera but had son take a pic of the 175 SMK groupings with his camera.

very nice, looks like you got a shooter on your hands.... wait till you get about 200more rounds down the tube and work up some reloads for that rifle with brass bumped back from your sass... you can't go wrong with those groups out of a new rifle at all !!!

btw, run an entry for the shootout!!

Armalite makes a good rifle and it will be very accurate. Alot of people hate on the mags but they are a reloaders best friend. The Armalite mags will allow you to load'em long and the suckers just plain work. You should be right at 1 MOA at worst case scenario but most will shoot under that if you and your ammo is capable.

I second that, my armalite may not be the flashiest of the AR10's but it is a shooter

I have a LMT 308 MWS and its a great rifle.i have about 1600 rounds through it and It has ran every ammo I put though it with out a single problem. The gun is actually very accurate with surplus ammo too Easily 3/4moa with XM80 and American eagle. I also reload for it and it shoots one ragged hole. Its easily a 1/2moa gun with Match ammo.

I've shot mine out to 816 and it still holds 1/2moa. I had a 5 shot group at 816 that measured just under 3 1/4in. But I don't know if I could do that again. I was right on the money with my wind calls and had a good day. But the rifle made it happen.

I also have a POF 308 and had nothing but problems with it so far. It's actually on its way back to POF to get fixed hopefully. However a lot of guys have the POF and love it. I Might just have a lemon. I think their QC sucks and you either get a great rifle or a paper weight.
The POF was Accurate when I was shooting it though. Especially for a Piston gun. It just had problems blowing primers, huge ejector marks on brass and extractor marks. It also had several failure to fire when I first got it. Pull the trigger and Click.

My short list if I where to buy one would be

LMT
KAC ECC. Just becuase it's sexy. Not worth the extra cost over the LMT tho. But if I had the money I would buy it.
Larue OBR. - I don't like the rail on them but they have been very accurate and haven't heard of any problems.

If money is not an issue and you have the patience, go GAP-10 and you will never look back. Admittedly you will have to keep calling, they are slammed, but the end result will be worth it. 1/2 MOA semi-auto that you can customize to your liking is tough to beat.

My first precision rifle was/is a GAP-10. No regrets. Definately worth the wait for a rifle that out shoots me. I know when I miss or I had a flyer that it was me and not the rifle.

In my opinion you cant go wrong with the DPMS LR or the RRA's. I think you get the most for your money with them. If you have the funds i like the GAP 10 also that i had shot awhile ago. Look on the 30 round shoot out thread in this forum and you will see there are a fair share of RRA's and a few DPMS in the top 10. I couldnt be happier with my DPMS LR260 so maybe my opinion is a little biased.

Here is a few bad pictures Elfster, I only have 500 or so rounds through the gun so far, zero load development, will do some this weekend, it shoots under 1 moa with my bolt gun loads, 175 smk, winbrass , 43 gr Varget.Only thing I done to it so far is teh socom brake, have not shot it yet but its smaller diameter than the barrel, not sure I like the look of that, added the lever to the Harris S bipod. Tomorrow I mount the tack ops stock pack. I am thinking I can squeeze 3/4 - 1/2 MOA out of this gun, we will see soon enough. I am waiting on a large batch of brass to get here from Killshot, he annealed over 500 cases for me, I shipped from Fla Monday, he lives in Ca, He shipped back yesterday, USPS flat rate, great service and price from USPS and Killshot.

It all depends on what u want to spend. Then you have to consider gas or piston. If you want to stay cheap you can get dpms for $999 but you get what you pay for. The pof is a great weapon but my personal favorite is the scar 17.

I couldn't decide between gas or piston and combat versus precision. I got tired of worrying about it so I ended up getting a SCAR 17S two weeks ago and ordered a GAP-10 today....now I feel better.

Good combo Vincent! Got my gap10 day before a trip and just returned! Taking it to the range this weekend. Fit, finish are outstanding and they dipped mine in atacs, really diggin it!

I've long appreciated the DPMS LR series AR's and have shot them at 1K too many times to count. The SS 24" bbl is heavy, but is a tack-driver. All of mine have shot bug-holes and now that I've made the jump to 6.5 cheetmoor I like the DPMS LR models even more. POF is a superb weapon, as is GAP-10, and I think F&D Defense may be my personal favorite. Oh, and the Larue OBR is a great one also.
But, for the money, the DPMS and a trigger upgrade and you are in business. I'm running a Vortex 4-16 on mine with a PSG1 style grip and planning an adjustable gas system and PRS stock addition.... and will still be well below (with optics) what the aforementioned cost for just the rifle alone.

I was attracted to the price point on the SIG, also the ambi controls, magpul furniture, finish etc. I read the review in SWAT magazine and it wasn't negative. I've been following as much as I can on the web about it's performance with end users and so far so good.

I have been very happy with my Sig 716, haven't tried for groups, but have taken it out to 950 yards without a problem.

Dude,

Get the SR25 ECC. Not only is it the best, subjectively speaking of course, it's got the better resale value. Everyone wants a Knight's. I've got one on backorder with Rockwell Arms. I'm willing to say the hell with my $25 deposit if I can find one sooner. If I had to go with something else, it'd be an LMTMWS. The Brits sure so like it, and I'm surprised that the retail prices haven't gone up due to the contract they have with LMT. By the way, anybody seen the reports of what was looked at when deciding on that as their DMR?

Why the Velcro?

Btw, the dual ejector setup is good for throwing brass.

The Velcro protects the shell deflector finish from brass hitting it. Also, it reduces the impact for e of the brass on the deflector and keeps your rifle from beating up your brass quite so much.

It helps protect the body of the brass being ejected so it can be reloaded. Even if you dont reload dont throw away good money. You can sell once fired brass for really good money or keep it for when you start to reload down the road. Those dual ejectors really fling the brass and will put a nice size dent in the side of the brass body which is not always wanted by reloaders. Just cut a pc of self stick velcro (fuzzy side) about 3/8"x 3/4" and stick it on the deflector. Mine is still going strong after about 1800rounds. Just clean the deflector really good before you stick on the velcro.

That's a pretty good idea. I would use electrical tape but it's start looking rough getting beat up by the brass.

Hey gents,

No-one has brought this up yet, because no-one knows who Anarchy Arms is... But we have an AR10 Upper/lower DPMS-compatible coming soon! I'm really excited, price point is going to be high $500 or low $600, depending on the cost of this next production run. But stay posted. We have a facebook, which primarily gets most of our new updates. I'm not trying to stomp on other manufactures, but we will have them in stock when we finish our production run. They look great, and have tight tolerances. PM me for details.

I was in the same boat, and ultimately went with the JP LRP-07 in .260 with a Bushy XRS 4.5-30 G2 reticle. I have about 3-4 weeks remaining, they quoted about 12...

Ok guys, please don't flame me here, but I' ll add mine to the list. I know it's all about what you want to do with your rifle and what is in your budget. I wanted a long range rifle and chose a Les Baer custom sniper. I have put about 300 rds thus far down the barrel. With some varget and some 175 OTM Berger it will shoot 1/2 MOA all day long. Used it 2 weeks ago at Peacemaker range in WVa for my very first long range match. Hit 11 of 20 targets (misses were ALL me!). I need to true my DOPE and shoot some more matches, and I think I can become competitive, maybe, possibly? At any rate, the rifle shoots great and customer service is par none. I thought I had an issue with the rifle and called LBC, talked to Les himself. He was very helpful and what my inexperienced behind thought was an issue, was not. Seems to be a great company with a good product. Just my .02$

I never thought I would say this but I have too many guns and want to optimize, I am set with my RRA 556, but I also have an M!A and a DPMS AP4 with an 18 inch barrel. I want to upgrade the 308 semi guns I have so am thinking about selling both and getting a higher end 308 AR, which one should I go for with the money I can get from selling the two guns above. It will be used for paper punching and any future zombie attack.

I just recent purchased an LMT MWS from Omega but if I had the money I would have pitched the suped up one listed here

LMT .308 LM308MWSE LMT MWS 16? - New In Box : Semi Auto Rifles at GunBroker.com

Then again, I'd also be hard Press to get the SR25 ECC. I can dream though. :)
