Range Report What ammo does your Remington 700P like best

[Savage-10FP]

I just purchased a 700P from a member on the board. He used FGMM 168gr.BTHP with good results. I was about to purchase some if I can find it. But was wondering what is your guys opinions also. I would like to try a few different grns, etc.

This is my first long range rifle that I want to get to know so I am just now starting my research. I am also using the search button but wanted your opinions as well.
The ranges I will be shooting. 200-500 yards over the next couple months.
Then I will try the 1000 yard range in Sacramento.

Its a stock 700P 26" barrel sitting in a AIC 1.0 stock.

I like black hills. But after it ran out around here I tried some Remington Match 175 & 168. Shoots great.

Federal 168gr Match.

M118LR (Lake City).

All were digested and very accurate in my Rem700 ('70's vintage).

Winchester 168 Match was not accurate at all, it looked like I was using a modified choke.

Hornady Match 168 AMAX shot the best in my PSS. I failed to ever match it with handloads. Good stuff.

Mine actually shot well with Winchester 168gr match. Under an inch anyways. Now I am loading 175smk with good results.

I've made successful gong hits out to 1300 yds with my LTR using 168gr AMax (43.5 gr Varget, etc etc).

Mine would do about 3/4" with WW on a good day, but with the Federal I could get 1/4" any day.

I shoot very good groups with the Federal Match, Remington is not bad and Winchester doesn't work for me.

I have actually shot probably 12 700P's as that is our duty piece. My personal 700P's (2) liked fed gold match in 168 and 175, I tried the hornady 168 AMAX and while they shot okay I couldn't find a 700P they outshot or even matched the fed. I'm not saying they don't shoot well in someones rifle, they just didn't shoot well in any I tried. We have been shooting the 110 TAP rounds the last few years and I haven't seen a 700P yet that didn't want to shoot little tiny groups at 100, 200, and at least as good as 168 gold match at 300 with the 110 TAP. After that not so much, lol. We shot the 155 TAP in testing and that really seemed to be the cats ass, out shooting the 168 at 100, 200, and 300, with some limited shooting past that wich was very promising. Unfortunately we didn't have much say in the final outcome so we did not settle on the 155 lol.

When I shoot in comps. with my duty rifle I usually take the gold match in 168.
