Night Vision What are your thoughts on the CNVD PVS-24?

Hey boys,

I’ve hunted feral hogs at night with dual tube nods, ir lasers, and thermal optics. Hunting tactics are scouting and locating groups of hogs on large patches of farmland and get in close to engage.

I recently got a deal on a CNVD PVS-24; not the LR version. I’ve been using it with a LPVO, and really like the little clip on. Image starts diminishing past 6X, but from 2X-6X it’s FOV and image quality is nice!

The issue is, I’ve never used another clip on other than this one. Most everything I hunt at night is 200yds and in….I don’t really have a way at this time to range, make turret adjustments and engage distant targets….

That being said, am I missing a lot by not going with a PVS-22, PVS-30, or PVS-27 that accommodates more magnification?

Just like to get your thoughts on them compared to the PVS-24 for short to mid range dynamic night hunting.

It’s decent for what it’s designed to be: compact clip-on for ACOG. And so it works fine with most LPVOs, but if you want more magnification you’ve got to move up to a bigger unit and with those will often come a bit more NV performance. For comparison, I run a UNS A3 with an LPVO and at 8x it struggles compared to a PVS-30 with similar tube specs at the same 8x setting. The bigger clip-ons just tend to have bigger/better optics to feed the tube photons.

What are you missing? Nothing really, unless you frequently find yourself in no moon conditions or trying to shoot with the LPVO mag topped out. Bump up to a 4-16x and you’ll definitely want a different clip-on.
