I have been looking for a barrel for my 10/22 project and I am not sure which to buy. There are so many out there it is mind numbing...Kidd, Tac Sol, Keystone, ect. I will be shooting up to 300yards (well trying) training for my Grendel. Any help is appreciated.

I have a Kidd barrel on mine and the thing shoot amazingly well. I have it in a B&C stock, Timney trigger and Rapid Reticle scope. Snipe squirrels at 200 yards.

Heard (and seen) great results with Whistle Pig but not sure out that range. Any experience with WP compared to Kidd?

Kidd is IMO the best out there...but, I have just bought a Fedderson http://www.1022rifle.com/ And it is showing promise...that being said, it all depends what parts, bedding, ammo.... Hey QUE, are you Q, or what...good to see you here.

Green Mountain. Period.
Spending more money on a 10/22 barrel is just plain lunacy. A bench rest accurate rifle the 10/22 is not...spend the money you save, on other things for your rifle.
Nothing against Kidd or Volquartsen, I just have never seen any increase in accuracy over what GM offers.

Another advocate for Kidd barrels. Tony Kidd uses Lothair Walther barrel blanks and finishes them himself. They are extremely accurate.
If you wanted to go over 20" Lilja will make them to any length but, they quoted me a 6 month wait time to do so.

The only thing I dont like about Kidd is they do not offer a black barrel unless you pay an extra $100. $350-$400 22 barrel is pretty steep.

Shooting at long distances with the .22lr is an excellent tool for developing and maintaining wind skills, but beyond a certain stage, it becomes redundant. Beyond a periodic skill refresher/conmfirmation its value has realistic limits.
I find that for basic accuracy practice, a 50yd distance is clearly adequate and is less complicated by environmental conditions. For basic practice, I try to eliminate as many variables as possible, leaving only the shooter as the major variable.

Think of it like this, people change barrels on m-14's,AR's, but,as good as they are they will still be lacking when they come up against a worked up bolt gun....G.M's are good,I have several,better than most stock Ruger barrels..not as good as Kidd, or Fedderson,Voltquarsen,ect. STILL it has to do with the rest of the components and how its put together....not to mention ammo....putting a lot of money in a 10/22 is indeed "lipstick on a pig" but I have done it over and over...now I'm trying to teach it to dance......

We have a friendly little match on Wednesday afternoons. Mostly old retired guys with more time then money? Lol All the name brands are represented and truly it is splitting hairs? It seems on any given day the stars alien and one of us will be the shooter of the day? No one barrel wins out.

I was hoping someone would post something like what you are saying. I know one has got to be the best but by how much...
Right now it is between fed and gm for me. I would like a Kidd but for $350 or so for a black barrel is a little crazy to me.

Kidd is reasonably priced and has consistently shown good accuracy.
For around $200, they really can't be beat. You can try a less expensive barrel, like Whistle Pig or Green Mountain, but getting a good accurate barrel seems to be a hit and miss proposition.
