Any ideas how I can tighten up my groups with my SPR A-1. Shooting about .70 with match ammo. I am not a smith, and would like to "do it myself". The action is already spot bedded. Any simple mods I can make at home, without sending the rifle away?

You are already there. I would bet there are people who would take your money and "sweeten" your rifle a little. But a sub MOA rifle in 308 is fine. How sub does it need to be? It is not a benchrest gun. I was happy when I got down to MOA with mine (from about 2 MOA)

Assuming the bedding is effective, and the crown is intact, about the only thing left that might improve inherent system accuracy is load development. Ensure that the sighting system and its mounts have no defects.
Eliminating parallax can help wring the best accuracy out of a well tuned system, and using sharply defined aimpoints can also shave down group sizes. Ensure the cheekweld is consistent and does not generate fatigue. Maintaining a Natural Point of Aim is mandatory for consistent performance. The body's natural position should be relaxed, such that fatigue does not occur quickly or devastatingly.

If that rifle is "spot bedded" (trying to say that with a straight face) from the factory that could be a problem. Have it pillar bedded and try again.

How is the trigger pull on the weapon. Factory weapons tend to be a little on the heavy side from the factory. Also does it break clean or is there some creep to it. A good clean break at about 3 to 3.5 lbs. is whats desired on a tactical rifle. If using factory ammo is all you have at your disposal (no reloading as stated above) then experiment on several types and bullet weights. Your rifle may like Federal better than Black hills or 168's better than 175's etc. Also how new is the rifle? A good break in after shooting several hundred rounds may tighten up your group. Avoid over cleaning and allow the weapon to foul nicely. Shoot till you notice accuracy loss then clean as described in many of the posts here.

I have to agree with Keith. The trigger pull on all the FN SPR rifles I have had contact with were set at about 4.5 pounds FROM THE FACTORY, and were epoxied in place so they would know if you tampered with the pull..that way, if they find you tampered with it, they invalidate your warranty.
I think on any precision rifle, a 4.5 pound pull is horrible. For a rifle that would be given to an inexperienced person who won't keep their damn finger off the trigger until ready to shoot it might be OK...but I think I would resolve the issue by training them about proper trigger use, finger placement, and then give a trigger with a pull of 2-3 pounds.

I agree with the above posts re the trigger an improvement here could have a signifcant effect on the group size. A couple more sugestions that may have a small effect on group size are to lap in your scope rings and play around with the torque settings on the action screws. you may find a sweet spot that shoots a little better. Pillar bedding could help,you may be able to do this yourself depends on your skills

Already adjusted tigger to about 2-2.5 lbs action is tq'd to about 60 lbs....I do have alot of trigger time have been to several "schools" in my career...I guess I could try a bed job but I think I should just be happy with what I have....
