What cartridge for the Sierra 150 grain 6.5 bullet

Yes, that is the decision to make. I'm guessing that a creedmore would not be able to push it fast enough to see any benefit. I have some cartridges in mind but I want to see what others think. I have no experience with the 6.5

And mercracing you named 2 of the 3 I was thinking of... I'd like to see3100-3150 fps with a 26" long barrel or so. I saw some loads with 140's that were in that fps range so I don't know if it's possible

I’m not nearly the smartest guy in the room, but I would think to see the awesome BC, you need speed. I’ve seen people run the numbers and they seem to be ok but I would think the two I listed would make that bullet shine if you push past, or right at the top of PRS speed.

If you don't mind the hassel with brass, 6.5 SAUM, you bet! Hellava cartridge!

With that bullet, one heluva combination! Key will be getting the rifle weight and muzzle brake together to mitigate the recoil.

Having watched ROs miss the call on a 6 Dasher hitting a big solid plate, this combination would make it very obvious when the round hits a target.

Getting ready to rebarrel a rifle, this may have just changed what it is going to be!

I thought the same thing but Sierra usually post stepped BC’s
and this one is no different. They are claiming a .713 BC if pushed 1760fps and faster (which is easily done in any 6.5 application) and a BC of .686 between 1240-1760fps. We will see but a lot of people doubted the 110 SMK but it’s proved to be exactly what is advertised so hoepfully this one will as well.

My third choice was the 26 Nosler. That would be a long range steel rig and possibly hunting(with a different bullet). I guess there will be more discussion when the bullets hit the shelves.

Those are very attainable speeds for any 6.5 to be sure. I only meant if you took your SAUM, .284, or Nosler and loded these you would be at a much greater distance before dropping to these speeds.

A question for those that know. How do the 6.5 Saum compare to say a .260 Rem as far as ease and speed of feeding? Single stack AI mag or AW okay?

I know that the obvious answer to the first question is that the steeper shoulder of the Saum is not a slick feeding as the 260, but actual experience is always helpful.

Jeff Brozovich over at Long Range Only is testing the new Berger 155 in a 6.5 creed and he is seeing benefits of higher BC out of the 6.5 creed at distance. Check out the thread over there.
I look forward to trying the new Berger or Sierra in my 6.5x284 as a hunting bullet.

Sierra tested them with a 260 Remington. I just got off the phone with them. They said a 1-8 twist would stabilize but the 1-7.5 would shoot inside of it all day.

Bartlein will make any twist you request but the wait is 6-7 months. I just ordered a 7 twist for a 65 PRC to load the 150 Sierra and 155 Berger.

I found they liked a bit more jump than I had originally started with 25 thou off was Money , I am going to run 60.5 Grains of
Retumbo which clocks in at 3080ish es of 8 and sd of 4.6 for 5. Shots.

There's a guy on accurateshooter that tried to run them in his 6.5-284 and was blowing up bullets in a conventional rifled Krieger barrel. Sierra and Krieger worked together to figure the bullets won't take that speed with conventional rifling.

Other than him I don't know of anyone pushing them hard

I am getting 3156fps from my 26" Bartlein 1:8" in 6.5SS w. the 150 SMK. Ridiculously accurate round. They are hot for sure, right on the edge, but they are a laser beam. I have 4 loadings on some of my brass already.

This is good to hear, I’m building one right now with a 28” pipe. Was hoping for good results with the 150 smk. What coal length did you end up with and does the b.c. On the smk seem to hold up at distance
