Have a new barreled action coming and was looking to try someyhing diffrent. I could go the usual aics or ax but wanting something more or less maybee. I would really like an opinion on the ashbury, thats the one im leaning to the most. Will probably try the mod 0 but with the 20 moa mono rail. The xlr looks ok and would try it but im not going to wait to get one. Im wanting to keep the stock below 2000 as this is kinda a bugdet build. The sensible choice is a non folder aics as it would keep the whole project at the 2k mark, but as we all know that never happens.

I fondeled the APO at Swat Roundup, well built although I'm not afan of the square handguard. They are offering an all alloy versiont that is siginificantly less expensive (1,600)

I have shot an Ashbury ASW and found the stock very comfortable as well as visually appealing. On the other hand, Kyle (XLR) is very approachable, offers a similar product, at a significant cost savings to the APO chassis. I wish I had taken the time to shoot an XLR when I had the chance.

I dig my XLR. Its comfortable, very adjustable, and not bulky. The owner, Kyle, offers up great CS as well.

Demon Force makes a chassis for rem 700 long and short action, seems kinda cool, I've never got a chance to see one ( only pictures) but I guess it has a buffer tube attachment for AR stocks. And it looks pretty cool, check it out

I bought an xlr from Redhawk (located near XLR). Price was same as buying direct and item shipped that week. So, it may be possible to find one sitting on a shelf, ready to ship.

I just got my XLR last week and it's an amazing chassis. Can't say enough about it but, definitely worth the $$$$.

Kyle's CS is also beyond reproach.

Highly recommend them.

I'm sure you are aware of them, but I'll throw it out there anyway just in case you aren't. After years of comparing chassis weights, features and appearances, the Rock Solid chassis from Todd here in Texas has impressed me as having pretty much everything I need and nothing that I don't need. Simple, adjustable, monolithic for strength and attractive. Unusually affordable, in comparison to many of the others, too. Even with the NVD rail for the forend, it's still under $1000. $750 by itself. Little to no wait, anodized or cerakoted finish. Hard to beat. XLR or KRG are high on my list, too, but the RS is just SIMPLE. I like simple. YMMV, and ignore if you were already aware.

I had an Ashbury MOD 1 that I had them put on their folding hinge. Their customer service was great and I got the stock weeks before before their quoted date.

It was a beautiful stock and I still think it's one of the best looking stocks out there. I ended up selling it because I could never get comfortable behind it. This is no fault of Ashbury just my personal feelings. I'm a big weightlifter and that has many stocks just not feel right. But the craftsmanship was amazing and they were a breeze to work with.

I think the Whiskey 3 from KRG looks amazing, but I've not tried one out. I don't really like the blocky forends and theirs looks more rounded. I'm still a sucker for a traditional stock though (McMillan/Manners).

AICS all day long...not that others aren't cool but for the money the AICS is sweet. I learned long ago that when one brand is much more popular then the others there is typically a reason. Look at some of the major matches..AICS rules the list.

I went with an eliseo on mine. While I personally know Gary, it had nothing to do with my decision.

His chassis systems have won many matches and records as well as he himself tying a national record. His stuff just works.

Just like you I wanted something different too for my Remington 700 5R in .300 WM. I've had Manners and AICS and liked them both. But at the time I didn't want get another $1k Chassis/Stock so I shopped around and found the PDC Chassis system. Got a Screaming Deal on a Fully Loaded Folder Chassis for $750 during Christmas and it was too hard to resist.

Now I'm in Love with this Chassis. It is Rock Solid and Very High Quality. If you do get a chance give them a hard look too!

It just looked rock solid, clean, highly functional, no weird frills, juts pure function.

I've handled a lot of the chassis out there. I like the APO best with the XLR a close second. If you get an APO check out stockys. You can get a Mod 0 for about $1250 delivered.

Im not a big fan of the XLR/AX/Ashbury type chassis for two main reasons. One: the tube forend means super high rings for large objectives, I like keeping the scope down as close to the barrel as possible and I'm not keen on the looks of a scope thats way off the scope base. Two: The tube forends make it a pain to take the barreled action in and out because the forend needs to come off to do this.

My vote is McRee or Whiskey 3
