I bought a gun that says "u.s. Springfield armory model 1903 serial number 1452xxx" on the action. It's a sporting rifle style with a very old Redfield adjustable peep sight. What year was it made? What's the rough estimate of the value of the gun in good condition" light scratching, no rust"? And it's it a good 30-06 to shoot at the the range for fun? Thanks for all the help.
Edit: I noticed that the sights are on the rear of the action, vs the barrel like most 1903s are.

You can put them any place you want. Like this old SC from the nationals in the 70's.

The rifle was made in 1932.

Sorry to say that sporterized 1903s are too common to bring much. Depending on the location $2-300.

It's a good strong shooter though.

i want a sporterized one so bad so i can turn it back into a nice 1903 project. would prefer one thats already had the value dinged on it for being drilled and tapped.

This gun looks like a nice shooter.

Re: What do I have? 1903?

It's not drilled so I think it could be converted back to original easy if a barrel could be found. I shot it today and it was a blast to shoot, after a test fire I busted a milk jug at 100 yd first shot. Then a 2nd jug at 200 yd on the second shot. Which amazed me, because I'm not the greatest shot. I'm very happy with the gun.

In its current state, maybe 200-300 bucks, but take it out of the sporterized state and it could be more, depending on matching parts, etc. However, if you're looking to have a valuable '03, you're better off buying one that way. If I were you, I'd enjoy the '03 as is. They're a blast to shoot.
