I have a Remington 700 in 308 with the barrel cut down to 16.25" that I need a scope for. The intended purpose for the rifle is medium range distances (inside 600 yards) and carryability. Right now, I am looking at the Vortex Viper 2.5-10x 44mm and the Burris MTAC 3.5-10x. I'm mainly concerned with the glass quality, durability/repeatability, 30mm tube would be nice for a lot of adjustment, and good turrets. I'm not as concerned with the reticle. What would you guys recommend for a scope with these features and for this purpose in the $400 price range?

I have the 2.5-10x44 on an AR in .223 and I absolutely love the scope. I just purchased a Viper 6.5-20x50 PA yesterday, and after getting it home and looking at it I'm still deciding if I want to mount it or take it back - the eye relief is absolutely terrible, especially at higher magnifications. But - it's right about the same price as the 2.5-10x44. I really am in love with that scope.

You could check out Leupold Mk AR mod1 3-9x40 mildot. I like mine really well for a budget scope. It is very light weight and still has a decent amount of travel for a 1" tube. Mil/mil; mine has exactly 18.2 mils of total travel. Glass is good and on par with its competition. Optically, it seems about like a VX-2. Lifetime warranty. It's main competitor is the Weaver Tac 3-10x from Midwayusa, also a great budget scope. I like Leupold's compact turrets a little more.

i have the PST 2.5-10, it's a nice scope for sure, and i have the viper HS 2.5-10 (cameraland $300) on a hunting rifle. they both are decent scopes, i like the PST more, just for the features. you could also check out a used SWFA SS 3-9. they periodically sell here for around $450 +-. just be patient and keep your eyes open on the optics for sale page.

Nikon M308 w. BDC600 reticle?

You can get the 3-12x42 for around $400 on sale. Good repeatability for mine (M223) and good turrets. Good glass, good power range. Nothing fantastic about it, but with all of the "good" ratings makes it hard to beat for the price.

Drop a few more dollars and you can step up to the 4-16x44 or 4-16x50 Vortex Viper.
