What do you think about the quality of this custom prefit?

I just received this custom prefit barrel for my Bergara b14r. I’ve got some concerns……

#1 I ordered a 24” and received a 22” so it’s going back anyway.

#2 I’m just curious about what happened to these tenon threads and why they would even ship this? I think someone screwed up the first, last? Thread and they just machined it off….. if you compare it to the stock barrel it definitely looks to be the case….

#3 there are very visible gashes and machine marks on the breech end (I don’t know if that would really make a difference, but it doesn’t look good). You can see them clearly on the last photo….

What do you guys think?

That half thread looks like a knife blade.

Looks fine from here. The thread is correctly formed. The back end (left end of thread) what you call a "gash", its just an undercut for thread relief. It nothing to worry about and normal for that style of cut.

I dont like the dents at the chamber end. Thats not normal.

22 and ordered 24. Send it back. BUT im gonna say the age old. How does it shoot ? I know you are not shooting it, so no problem. But honestly, just screw it on and shoot the damn thing when you get it replaced. Dont get hung up on cosmetic machinist stuff you clearly dont know anything about.

OP is ostensibly posting to get this kind of input, but still needs to be said as a reminder for the rest of us.

Really? I’m pretty sure there is a missing thread? I’m not a gun smith, but look at the distance between the recess and where the tenon meets the shoulder. Not to mention I can easily bend the first half thread with my finger. If it shoots or not isn’t a huge concern, probably shoots great. Just thinking about how it would be to resell if I wanted to. You pay big money you want perfect ya know…

To be honest this is all existential anyway. Appreciate the feedback.

Top barrel was chambered on a cnc. Bottom barrel on an manual machine. Manual machinist sometimes use a relief cut to stop the threading tool in. Makes since in this instance because the cylinder before the shoulder needs to be clean and clear for alignment.

By the way moosemeat is correct, I spoke with the builder and it is perfectly normal. I was made on a lathe and the tool is large much like the threads which means it needs some space to finish the cut.
