OK looking at barrels......Yes I know DPMS...yes I understand barrel extensions and how they machine up....but I don't seem to be gathering the DPMS thing.. I've seen DPMS height and pattern. what does that mean. School me....

There are two different patterns for large framed ARs. You have the original Armalite AR10 and the DPMS LR308. Two different designs that accomplish the same thing but are just ever so slightly different enough to cause issues using parts for the other pattern. Parts being a few thousandths this way or that etc that will cause stuff to not fit together properly. As for specific details Most aftermarket these days that I see are are leaning toward the DPMS pattern as opposed to the Armalite. So pick one and go with it.

As another step down the rabbit hole there is a high and low set to the DPMS LR308 and thats essentially how tall the picatinny on top is that you would want to match up with your hand guard. That can also dictate gas blocks fitting and all that as well.

So most of it is based off of "what pattern reciever did you get" and then getting the parts to match up. Youll have so many varying opinions on what is best but the DPMS High seems to have the largest assortment of aftermarket parts.

Armalite has sued quite a few other smaller folks as well. Example rock River arms. So it's just confusing enough to cause you to really think about what you have.

Also, internal components are crucial. The upper and lower receivers are obviously important to keep matched, but the BCG, Barrel Extension, barrel, etc. would be best to get it all from one place. Some guys lean toward JP, others buy Proof as it comes matched to a JP bolt, etc. The more matched the internals the less of an issue you will have to mess around with reliability and Head space safety (sort of speak on safety)

That said, a competent gunsmith can address the every crucial head space if you decide not to go with a single manufacturer.

Good luck...DPMS high pattern is the better way to go...just to add my two cents.

WTF has that got to do with anything in the OP's thread?

You made baby Jesus cry and He humps ArmaLite B Series AR-10s or MATEN with ARMALITE internals with barrels by Scott Medesha or EGW.

Because He does, I do, also.

Christ on a da-da-damn crutch.

Did you know that ARMALITE has the A Series out?
