What scopes do the different groups of milatary use for scopes? I heard either Leopold, Nightforce or US Optics

The USMC uses a S&B 3-12x50mm on their M-40's since around 2005. Previous to that I think were all Unertl's or a combination of Unertl and other scopes back to the late 70's or early 80's. Other Hide members will be able to fill in those blanks.
For the newest M-110 platform the USMC uses PH 3-15x50mm.

They came in second in the competition. Counter Sniper's reticle and lens coatings put it on top.

Yep and they are able to withstand up to 5,000 times the force of gravity and that alone sells thousands of them and are also 24 step vacuum Bertrillium-Zantitium multicoated how can you go wrong.

For the M40 statement I have to talk about that, cant resist. The originally came out with the Redfeild scope on the m40 then progressed to the USO then ended up with the S&B PM II, for details though search it cause there is just too much info for me to repeat it all about the history of the scopes. As far as the Leopolds are concerned they are over priced. For an entry level scope that doesn't break the bank but you wont throw away in a week would have to be the SWFA SS scopes (which had a contract with the military for a while). By the way don't let those guys that find typos get you down cause this forum isn't exactly a dictionary to begin with.

I could have swore that is was not USO scopes but Unertl. I thought USO was doing repairs to the Unertls for a long time to keep them in the field after John Unertl passed away, but it was still a Unertl designed and manufactured scope. But you may know a lot more about it than I do. And was it only Redfield scopes before that with no other brands thrown in?

OP, I'm not in but from what I see and hear, they "use" whatever is in inventory regardless of original contract history. The most recent contracts are flavor of the year and easy to google up, but in reality, they use just about everything because the "out of fashion" glass still works great.

Incorrect.

The M40A1 was equipped with a Unertl 10x. When it came time to refurbish the scope US Optics stepped in. I am not sure of the specific details, but IIRC USO provided MST-100's for those Unertl scopes that were too far gone to be refurbished.

I can tell you with 100% certainly at least two of the M40A1's that I was issued had Unertl 10x scopes on them. We had to make sure we taped off the markings when painting.

J. Unertle scopes were used before the USO's but USO's are still being used today on the A3's, but originally I believe the USO's were used in desert storm. Right now they are transiting to the A5 (a mistake IMHO) and I don't know if they will be used on them or if they will just stick with the S&B. Haven't found too many quotable sources on the A5 yet and the best source I seen was a clip on the M40A5 on the military channel which made it sound like they were primarily changing the barrel specs to a 20'' with a suppressor for urban conflicts. The only J. Unertle I own is on my 1903 Springfield and I have a Refeild on my M40. Also the way I understand it is the M40 used the Redfeild, the M40A1 Unertle or USO, the A3 with the S&B or USO, and the A5 is seems so far to be in the same day optics wise. By the way excuse me earlier on leaving the Unertle out, I just never associate that scope with that weapon, I usually associate it with the 1903.

I am fairly certain I am familiar with the history of US Sniping. Most particularly the Marine Corps sniping programs from Vietnam to about 2000.

I am also fairly certain from your post above this one that much of what you "know" is conjecture because a large portion of what you posted is at least partially incorrect.

Some of us know what we know from firsthand, not Google.

We have officially changed to counter sniper scope because they are superior in every way. It's very purpose driven, for zombie killing. The special 230-+485 degree stable Bertrillium~Zantitium multicoated optics on both primary, secondary and interior lens groups is a special zombie detecting agent that works like a thermal weapon sight... EXCEPT ZOMBIES DON'T HAVE BODY HEAT... The top secret research they done on these scopes is amazing, everybody, including the delta SEALS are using them.

There's no hate there mate, 90% of your stuff is funny. But I just don't get this 'can't let it go' with CS scopes and shitting on noobs. Seems counter productive and pretty thin material laughs wise IMHO.

I see someone new to shooting as a potential ally to the sport and gun ownership in general. Dicking them around and potentially wasting hundreds of dollars of their money will not help anyone.
