What I learned about trigger control!!!!!

I saw the video about trigger control when shooting semi-Auto's. I've shot some very good groups but I've had a problem with not being able to do it consistently. I shoot every sunday for about 5 hours. Last Sunday while a friend and I were testing different loads. I consciously went through my mental checklist and tried making space with my hand and keeping my finger at 90 degrees. It worked. I shot a zillion moa groups but couldnt shoot below it and I was really pissed off at myself. but when analyzing my groups I found that even though my elevation is great my groups spread horizontally. So after using that trigger control technique I was nailing some .5 moa groups and was really happy. I literally have to go through the list of fundamentals all the time or I slip back in to the lead slingin mentality. I thank you and your friend in the video. I'll be signing up for the traning very soon!!!

Remember the importance of trigger reset on semis and pistols too. That will tighten up those quick shots also.

Trigger school, which is what Jacob calls the lesson on trigger control is much more detailed, and totally worth the price of admission. Its by far the most comprehensive explanation of "how" to shoot a rifle using the proper trigger control. Many will tell you "what" you need to do, but that doesn't always explain the how and why, which is where most people have the problem. Just saying to someone to come straight back on the trigger leaves a lot of room for interpretation, the Trigger School lessons brings it all into focus.

thats the one! I was almost making a big ] with my thumb and fore finger and very lightly grabbing the grip with my other fingers making sure I wasnt torquing the grip (you bow shooters know what I mean) and it worked great!!!! Thanks Lowlight

Thanks Lowlight </div></div>Shooting a bow, and shooting a rifle are so much alike when it comes to fundamentals. Relaxation and follow through are critical to consistency. Not "gripping" the grip is huge, and one of my biggest pet peeves when helping fellow archers. I'm learning to apply it to my pistol grip rifles, and it's making a big difference. That video contradicts the "high, firm grip" that i have been taught by the Marine Corps, but i am sure it wont hurt to try. Anything that may improve accuracy is worth the time.

Believe the 90* trigger.

Wherever that places your hand is where your hand needs to be.

I don't worry about it so much on an M4 when I am 15 yards away, but if I have more than the blink of an eye to setup on the weapon I build my hand position from the pad of the finger back.

It is both, a formal class or you can do the online training here on the site.

The high up position is wrong. As stated inside 100 yards with an M4 you can pretty much get away with anything you want. You can gorilla grip it, thumb finger pinch, whatever, but for precision, you have to have that 90 and follow through resetting after the recoil pulse is over. A gas gun is 3X more difficult to shoot accurately when compared to a Bolt Gun and an AR10 is a different animal when compared to an M4.

its the difference between driving a Porsche and a Peterbilt, both will get you from point A to point B but you drive them differently.

I know what you mean. I/We (PMIs in Pendleton) Were thought to teach that in the PMI School. The 1st time I tried the same grip that’s in the video is when I asked Staff Sgt. Praslick from AMU why they don't shoot with a "high firm pistol grip" His explanation was pretty much the same as this. I shot a 99-9x on the 200 rapid right after that. The 9 was "called"

When I got back to being a PMI I changed what I taught my recruits. I thought they did better but getting the old school guys and the WO to go along with it was not easy!!
