I was in the local pawn shop today, and I spotted a Winchester Mod. 52 22lr, with a detachable 5 round mag. There was no surface rust on the blueing anywhere or pitting for that matter, and no dings on the walnut stock. Mounted on top of it was a Leupold 4X. The rifle appeared to have been barely used. I asked the guy about price and he said $1100 hundred for it. I know that these are highly sought after rifles but that seemed pretty steep to me. Any thoughts...

BTW I don't know if this is an A, B, C, or D mod. Thanks

Jester

I did check gunsamerica, prices range from 550 all the way up to 1500...I will do some more searching.

Re: What is a good price for....

Look at the ser. number and see if it is a A B C D E . If it has a Leopold scope it has problt been drilled and tap. If so the collectors value is gone. Look and if it hase been drilled on that is over priced. There was if i am right some D and E modles that were drilled. I would look on www.rimfirecentral.com if i was you

Re: What is a good price for....

Ok, that's what I thought, if I can remember correctly when I glanced at the serial # the first letter was an E. I wonder if I could negotiate him down to around 500...should be fair enough, but I am gonna go back there and thoroughly check the rifle over.

Re: What is a good price for....

Finally got around to going back there and getting some more info on the rifle. SN=87100C Has a 4x leupold on top, with front sight on it. Looks to have been drilled and tapped. Barrels is sporter type, with a detachable 5 round magazine. NO scratches on the stock, minor rust on the magazine release button. I am going to do some more homework. They still want 1100 for it, but I am thinking this is way over priced. Not to mention, the guy behind the counter thinks it was a remake that Winchester did.

Re: What is a good price for....

I don't know about 52s other than that they have a stellar rep so if it is an original 1956 vintage in the description you describe it is probably not overpriced if you take the scope out of the equation. I'm an Annie shooter and the repeaters cost more, and are more sought after than the single shots these days. Most all want one drilled and tapped to mount target optics to take advantage of the extreme accuracy of these rifles. My friend has a pawn/gun shop and used Leupold's are gold to him because of their no question warranty. They are a quick easy sell for them. That said, 4X is BS for a target rifle so ask him what he will take if he keeps the scope as you will want more magnification. Also keep in mind that ANSCHUTZ MPR 64 repeaters with excellent match grade triggers/barrels for $650-750. Regards

Re: What is a good price for....

Thanks for the heads up, haven't been back there in awhile. Eventually, I'll have to go back and negotiate a new deal. In the mean time money is tied up in a new barrel and possibly a new scope. Hopefully I can score a deal.
