Range Report What is the consensus on 338 RUM?

I tried searching but it didn't come up with any results. What is your experience with 338 RUM vs 300WM? I will be hunting and paper punching.

I have and run, a 300wm, 338 edge which of course is basically a hot rod 338rum, and a 300rum.
I see the main differences as the availability of components and how much back blast you want to deal with. Oh, and barrel life-or lack thereof.

I don't see this rifle getting shot frequently. This will more than likely be my back of the safe gun just in case I ever get to go on a big time hunt. I want to ensure I "bring enough gun". That said, I do expect accuracy from all my weapons. I want it to be a 3/4 MOA gun with hand loads.

It's just a matter of what you WANT to shoot. The 300 WM probably has more than sufficient energy and distance for anything you might want to hunt. Brass is cheaper, more plentiful and you can buy better quality brass than you can for the 338 RUM with which you'll be stuck with using Rem brass so you may find it easier to get better accuracy out of the 300 WM. Bullets are cheaper too and it burns a little less powder. There's nothing inherently inaccurate about the 338 RUM or the Edge and very good bullets are available but they do cost more, quite a bit more, to shoot and they have noticeably more recoil. What it really comes down to, if you don't consider expense, is what itch you want to scratch.
