What is the Large Frame {Non-ARMALITE} AR mag of choice at this time.

Last I heard, the gold standard for quality and COAL was Larue Tactical or KAC. Both are pretty spendy. After being fed up with P-mags, I wen't with steel Larue mags for a buck fifty a pair. They are very well made as you would expect for top dollar mags. I will be picking up more in the future for sure.

As far as KAC goes, they cost very slightly more, but come up second hand here and there if you are patient. I wouldm't mind picking up some of these too for comparison if i run across a good deal. I've have not used them to date however.

The one that works in your particular rifle. A lot of people think this is a standardized thing with the straight SR25-type mags, including the PMAGs, but it just isn't. There are enough variations in whatever datum different coattail shops are working off of that there is no compatible magazine standard in the LR-308 imitation guns.

Gen I PMAGs work in some, whereas Gen II don't. Lancers usually fix the problem, with few exceptions.

I've got some Larue mags I am going to sell soon. They just don't like my setup. PMAGS ended up working better. Which is a shame because the construction of the Larue is solid.

I've had my Tobr jam for a while using Larue mags but would just deal with the jams every once in a while. Finally, I decided to try a PMAG and I've never looked back. I think it has to do with the rounds being pushed up faster by the PMAG's spring.

"What's wrong the large frame pmag? "

The bolt doesn't lock back on my G2 and they dont have as much as much room. Not the end of world, but not ideal either. I also have a RPR, so having extra length and being about to feed both guns from the same mag is a plus.

Pmags are swell in AR15s, I'd rather use metal mags in AR10s if i can. So far, the Larues seem to be the ticket.

I have picked up a couple of the MagPul SR25 mags that will work with the longer OAL (M118LR), part # MAG577.

anyone using these or compared to the metal mags for load length?

Just starting to develop some 175gr SMK loads for a PWS 308 AR, so far the length hasn't been an issue with the mags but it is very close.

Is the OAL better on the Lancer 308 mags? might be able to pick some up at a good price in the near future.

I'm not crimping and I keep neck tension about 0.002. In this case I've found it is better to load the bullets seated in a little further because when they chamber they pull from the case towards the lands. Since I do this I can fit them fine in regular length magazines.

You can check these things for your rifle and see if loading them longer is needed or if the bullet is scooting towards the lands when chambered.

According to their measurements, ASC Stainless and Larue are longer internally. My bolt gun loads fit into Larue with room to spare and barely fit ASC. They wouldn't fit Magpul.

ASC allows me to get cleanly to 2.86+ with room to spare. Magpul max below 2.82. 39883145-6082-4167-8D0B-5AE0C041C685.jpeg

is that the standard Magpul or the M118LR version? Looks like I might need to pick up some extra mags depending upon how the load development goes. It's always nice to have some options, plus it might be easier for ammo management- plastic mags are 150gr stuff, metal mags are 175gr.

I did something similar with 5.56/300 and got some of the colored hexmags for the blackout rounds so it was easy to identify different calibers that could potentially be mistaken.

To be clear, rounds above are same OAL, pic shows difference of each in std Magpul and ASC mags. I also do as you to segregate rounds designated for specific rifles via use of different mag manufacturers. Leaves nothing to doubt.

Any issues with the ASC mags? I've read they don't work in some rifles (I have a PWS MK216), or might need some light modifications to work. The extra internal length would be nice without spending $100/mag. :)

and thanks for the clarification, the two looked like different round OAL.

I run the ASC’s in Black Rain upper/lower receivers in 6.5 CM. No issues with 107 Sierras through 139 Scenars/Nosler CC’s/AMax or 140 Hornady HP’s. Generally limit rounds in mag to no more than 7-8, but they’ll take 10. I’ll reconfirm OAL’s, this having come from a post about 6 months back on same subject.

Those of you having problems with the SR25 pmags, three questions.
Are you using the clips/covers when stored loaded?
Have you had any issues with the SR20's?
Were you using the covers on them?

I chunked a windowed 25 but my other 25 seems to be working OK... but I don't trust it.
I've not had issues with the 20's, or the 10's. I keep all of them sttored loaded with the covers.

I’m a HUGE fan of the Lancer and the KAC Factory mags. I only recently discovered the KAC mags, but I’ve been using the Lancers for quite some time. As I was told, the KAC will allow you to load as long as possible in the .308 platform.

A word to the wise with the Lancer mags. Load them up and let them sit. The spring are VERY stiff when new. Otherwise, totally GTG.
