Hello, I'd like to know the practical range of the Benelli R1 semi auto rifle
is it suitable for long range shooting ? can it somehow substitute a bolt action in terms of accuracy?

Thank you

Caliber? Ammo? Did you have a specific "long range" in mind? What kinds of targets are you needing to hit at extended ranges (i.e. - are you punching paper/steel or are you looking to hunt game)?

All of these things will factor in to whether the R1 will get the job done for you efficiently (and if game is your target...ethically).

From my experience with an R1 in .30-06 shooting Federal Match and Hornady ammos in 5rnd groups, they are capable of around 1.5MOA accuracy which isn't great by most standards. Several "reviews" I have read (take them with a grain of salt) report accuracy over 1.5MOA. Again, with some load development, that could very well be improved upon, but isn't likely to get you anywhere near match-grade accuracy and may not get you sub-MOA.

Most modern bolt action rifles (from the factory) will likely exceed that level of accuracy without much trouble.

I bought one for my dad a couple years ago in .300 Win mag. It shoots nice but leaves something to be desired for reloading. The magazine is set up for a max length of 3.340" on the Win Mag which is book length in most reloading manuals. I measured all of the .308 caliber bullets I had on hand with the Hornady OAL gauge and some of them were close to .200"(not a typo) jump to the lands at magazine length and let's face it, if you're not going to use the magazine what really is the point of buying this gun in the first place.

I was able to get MOA accuracy with Barnes 168 gr. Tipped TSX's and H4350 but just barely. I remember the Barnes had a pretty good distance to the lands but then again they're known for liking somewhat of a jump.
