Ok, this thread is more a proof of concept for me so I will explain my thinking. First, I know nothing. Really a noob. I own one precision rifle. I did buy up (for my skill level) and it seems to be paying dividends.
I currently run a 3-12x50 S&B MIL/MIL scope. I am in the need for a spotting scope and binos. I think I would probably be best served by a spotting scope since I don't really hunt.
My thinking is I would want a spotting scope with a MIL reticle. One, I am still trying to master MILs. And I am determined to be as comfortable in them as a fish in water. Two, it would match my rifle, or anyone else's rifle who is also using MILS. Three, it would give me something I could practice ranging in MILS without attracting attention of waving a rifle around.
I only have access daily to a 600 yard range, and have NEVER shot beyond 400 yet. But 1000 yard ranges are not too far away, and who knows what the future holds? But I have been very happy with my "buying once" theory.
I have an understanding of what is hi-end and why in rifle scopes. But I have not even the slightest clue with spotting scopes or even the features that are possible with them. I don't even understand angled vs straight advantages. I also notice in spotting scopes more brand names show up than in just rifle scopes (i.e. KOWA)
So...let me start at the top in my search. For the professionals, enthusiasts and competitive shooters, what are the dream spotters and why?
Regards,
Greyson
