what kind of accuracy should I expect out of this thing?
Remington R-25 in .243 winchester
20 inch fluted barrel, Wilson Combat 1 piece scope mount with a 6x18x40 nikon buckmaster mildot
Just picked it up used didn't know if it was capable of serious accuracy or am I wasting my time on it? Thanks

Now's a heck of a time to be worried about wasting time after putting a bunch into accessories and upgrade components like the Magpul PRS, PRI handguard, etc.!!

All joking aside, the R-25 rifles that I have fired (all 308s) were MOA capable or slightly better with handloads/quality ammo. You aren't going to get it with wally world ammo or surplus. While I can't speak for the .243 rifles specifically, the potential is there.

The most needed upgrade on these rifles are the triggers. The factory triggers leave a lot to be desired. Get a good quality replacement (Geissele, JP, etc., etc.). That will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of getting the most accuracy out of your R-25.

Re: what kind of accuracy should I expect

yeah I guess I should of clarified I bought the gun with all that stuff on it other than the scope and scope mount. I plan on reloading my own once I can get a load figured out. I did send the trigger off to get worked over. Sent it to Bill Springfield in Colorado springs. I got his 3lb speed hammer trigger job. I am not sure if its 3lbs or not but there is absolutely no creep whatsoever and a very crisp break. Best $50 dollars I have spent, I sent him 4 triggers from ar's and everyone is awesome. Mainly wanting this gun to punch paper at 400 to 600 yards and do some prarie dog hunting on our annual trip just wanted something that would get out a little further than a 223 and this seemed like a good choice at the time. Thanks for the replies. KM

Re: what kind of accuracy should I expect

Bill does excellent trigger work. I have never used his AR trigger tune-ups, but his HK G-3/HK91 triggers are phenomenal!! I have had several over the year including a set trigger.

As for your intended purposes for the rifle...you should be good to go for punching holes/hunting. Load development, combined with the trigger upgrade should get your groups with the rifle into the sub-MOA range.
