I'm thinking I'm going to have to get a pair of these swarovision binos. Does anyone have any opinion of 8x vs 10x? I'm thinking moderation might be the way to go in this realm for increased FOV especially with the superlative clarity of the swarovskis but I do hate the idea of giving up an extra 2x... Any opinions?

Nikon Monarch 10x42 These are great for the money good glass and very light.
Zeiss 10x45 RFB These have great glass and combine a bino/rf into one. They aren't as portable as the nikons.

I have been looking at the leupold military binos. I have the leupold 12-40 Spotting scope with the TMR, a Leupold scope and now I am curious to hear what you think about the binos. I don't think I need the TMR because I will be getting a leupold LRF and two other optics already have the TRM. What are your thoughts?

I recently bought Swaro EL 10x42 HD and love them. The clarity is truly stunning. I compared quite a bit side-by-side with the Leicas and the Zeiss. The Leicas were my 2nd choice, but when comparing them at longer range, the resolution of the Swaros was superior. Everything was absolutely CRISP.

The Swaro design gains superior edge-to-edge clarity at the cost of some spherical distortion. This creates a slight "rolling ball" effect when scanning, which physically disturbs some people. I notice it if I think about it, but it does not bother me.

To the poster asking about 8x vs. 10x, I looked at both, and I couldn't pass on the extra magnification. I would like a set of 8x32 for a lighter more compact option, but as a primary set, I like the 10x.

Old set of Bushy's that are acceptable but that's about it and recently picked up a set of Brunton Icon...Damn they're nice! Best glass I've ever used and the price was tough to beat on the deal i got.

I've got Swaro 10x42s I bought from a friend. Best glass I've ever owned in binos and must say their customer service is above and beyond. One of my lens covers kept coming open on me and was causing me to attract a lot of dust and debris while hunting. I called trying to order some replacement covers. They simply asked for my address. I had assumed they would be sending me a bill and a new set of covers. Much to my surprise, I got two sets of covers to my door in three days and they covered it on their dime.

A good friend of mine had some of the Leupold Mark 4 binos and was VERY disappointed with the resolution and clarity. Everything was very grainy. He ended up returning them after one outing and went back to his Nikon ATBs.

I run the Swaro 10X42 with built in rangefinder. I traded my 10X42 EL's in when these came out.

Just as Swaro's other bino's these are amazing I love them crystal clear IMHO

For those of you that have not looked through image stabilized binos it will blow you away..it is a real game changer,

NO STEADING SUPPORT NEEDED, When you pull your binos out do you instantly look for some thing to lean on?

I prescout for deer in a area with no trees and I used to Carry a 6' walking stick to support my binos so I could count the points on the deer. With the Image Stabilized there is no need for a tree, stick,car hood, etc to lean on. The work great on boats and in moving car's

I have actually counted the eye lashes on a deer 40 yards away, (I was testing them against my Bushnell binos)

The resolution that the IS binos give is way more important than the glass clarity of $$$$ binos (Canon has great glass)

I can see the moons of Jupiter FREEHANDED

You could have $5000 binos and compare to a $500 set if IS binos and the IS will outperform them every time.

Read the reviews..most are from birders that spend huge $$$$on binos (it's their only piece of gear)

I have leupold 10x42mm cascades which are light, compact and provide excellent clarity and low-light transmission. I would compare the glass to their mark 4 scopes.

i have the 10x canon IS and had the big ones... i belive 18x? all weather. the bigger ones lacked the stabilization of the smaller pair. I ended up selling them. Nice binos but light gain and clarity werent up to the par of the price tag.

I actually used the 10x canons in iraq as a sniper for observation for an entire year almost every day. They are great binos. Really nice for seeing peoples hands and what they are doing with thier hands. Since the image is perfectly stable you can easily tell with utmost certainty what the subject is doing.

As for durability, i treated them like a baby and they worked for me. Other guys broke some from tossing them around but I dont think they are THAT durable. Keep in mind there is alot of moving parts inside however.

They ended up getting water inside toward the end of my deployment and the glass would fog up from time to time due to moisture inside. Still usable but it was a crap shoot.

Now I use Leica Geovid HD's, almost exclusively. They offer insane glass quality. Im seriously blown away by the quality of glass in those binos. And they rangefinder which is really nice. So its one unit instead of two that you have to lug around.

But you need to prone out if you want to get them nice and steady. Observation is not nearly as easy with them. However their color, contrast, depth, and clarity more than make up for the lack of IS in my opinion.

I assume you are asking because you are looking for a set?

I have Steiner 8x30R's. They are good, rugged bino's. What I have found though is that I miss having a focus wheel. They are good for work and allow me to see what I need to see but for vacation and messing around I find the infinity focus or my eyes just cant sharpen the image they way my brain wants it to be and dialing in the eyecups is not as effective as a focus wheel.

Size and weight are good. They seem pretty sturdy - though not as sturdy as the ones I remember from the 80's. They will be good working bino's but if you need to see ants in a tree 200 yards away or count the eyelashes on a deer they may not always work with your eyes.

Just something to consider.

I have two pairs of Swarovski...7 x 42 and 10 x 50 SLC's. I think the 7 x 42 as far as weight, clarity etc. are my go to most of the time.
By the way, the customer service department in my expeirence with them has been over the top great.

I have used a pair of monarch 10x42 nikons for hunting from central Illinios to the mountains of New Mexico. These are very good for the money and have done all I needed of them. I also have a pair of zeiss 10x45 rf binos. These have outstanding brightness and clarity. I have noticed the most difference in the early morning and late evening with these. They almost seem to turn the lights back on compared to the nikons. The nikons strengths are light weight and reasonable price. The zeiss have outstanding optics and combine a bino with a range finder.

I had a couple of good sets of binos. The best set that I ever owned or looked through for that matter was a pair of Zeiss Jena NVA (checkpoint Charlie)7x40. I paid $200 for them on ebay and sold them a few years later for almost $600.00. While I owned them, i compared them to everything that I could. I took them to numerous camera shops and other stores and compared them side by side with Steiner's, Leica's and many other sets that were priced as high as $2,500.00. My wife thought that I was obsessed with this and out of my mind. Nothing could touch the Zeiss set as far as glass quality or visible light. Nothing I compared them to was even close. Another pair that was very good but didn't compare to the Zeiss set was a pair of Komz-BPO's. These are basically Russian made with stolen Zeiss technology from Zeiss Jena. They were very good but were bulky and had smaller objectives which made finding objects slower. I may pick up a pair of Nikon's as mentioned above. I have nikon SLR cameras and it makes sense that their glass would be very good. I have a couple of IOR scopes and the glass in them is outstanding. I wouldn't mind buying a set of their binos. I don't use binos much but owning a variable power set that is good quality may help me find more uses for them.

I work outdoors and out of a truck. I've been using Kahles 8x42's for six years. Super clear glass and no shadows.

I bought a pair of Swarovski SLC's because I thought it would be an upgrade. Ended up selling them. Glass was no more clear than the Kahles. I had to position the Swaros perfectly or I'd get shadowing.

The Kahles are small and light and tough as nails.

I've got a pair of those cascades as well and absolutely love them! Best pair of binos I have ever had.
