Re: What kind of paint for a naked Mcrees stock?
I never had good luck with the Alumahyde 2 paint, to me it took too long to dry, too long to cure, and the durability wasn't that much better than DuraCoat. With the DuraCoat I can paint it in my basement or garage, handle it in 20-30 minutes, and reassemble for use the next day. Most of the issues that I've heard relating to DuraCoat come from insufficient surface prep and/or improper mixture of paint and hardner. The DC on my guns is holding up pretty good and I don't regret going that route one bit.
That being said I'm painting my new B&C stock with Krylon and Rustoleum because it gives me some more flexibility in colors and patterns at a much lower cost. I will be interested to see how well a few coats of matte clear will hold up in the long run but like it was mentioned touching it up shouldn't be too hard.
