Hey all,

I have had a stainless Remington 700 30-06 for the past 18 years and I was only 10 when my father bought it for me so he got me a lighter one.

It's a 700 and does not have a floorplate or box mag or anything, I can only feed down into the rifle and it has a 20, maybe 22 inch lighter barrel. It was always referred to as a "Mountain Rifle".

Dont know if that's a real designation by Remington or not...

I'm looking to get a new synthetic stock on it to up the weight a little. If anyone can recommend any cheaper <$150 stocks that would be great.

Also, because my rifle does not have a floor plate, being a 700 action, could I just get a stock that will allow me a box mag?

ADL is the no floorplate model and you do have a box mag. What you don't have is a detachable mag. The BDL opens up from the bottom so you can empty the box mag that way.

You can switch it to BDL simple enough or some brands of detachable mags too.

Look at the Bell and Carlson stocks, they are nice for about $150.

My father has this really nice black with like a grey looking fiberglass web around it that he says he got for $80 (probably 10 years ago) and I love the weight and feel of his but I don't think I have a standard barrel since it's shorter and thinner than his rifles.. Not sure if my barrel will fit those stocks without looking goofy.
