I've got a CA MPR on order in 6.5 creedmoor. I've got a SWFA 3-15 I'm going to put on it but would like to upgrade and not sure of how much upper end mag I should get? Going to be used mostly for targets and steel out to 1250 yds.

scopes are very personal, as is magnification. On a bolt gun at 6.5 CM, I think you will like somewhere between 18x and 25x. Given the scope you have, and what I might infer from your budget, you should seriously consider the Nightforce NX8 1.5-20x. A Leupold Mark 5 at 3-18x might also be worth considering, as well as the ATACR 4-16x.

We sell a good number of ATACR and NX8 scopes, if interested. We take scopes in trade, but we stick to a few main brands, and you would do better to sell the SWFA scope and buy a Nightforce or Leupold.

I like the 4.5-27 on my razor, the top end more then enough out to 1500 and the low end is nice for up close engagements. I’ve shot out to 1000 with a 14x and it wasn’t terrible just not the greatest for target identification at that distance.

What's your budget? There is a large selection of glass from cheap to high end depending on your price point.

Budget is 2k but I'm more interested in how high the upper end power should be. I've shot those ranges with an 18x and it was fine but have never used any higher power so just looking for recommendations on that then I'll know more what I'm looking for.

Quality of glass means more than magnification. I've shot a mile with a Steiner 16x and never wanted anything more.

I personally like having more mag on the high end. Don't use it often but it's nice to have. Like nx8 4-32, xtr3 5.5-30, cronus 4.5-29 type scopes.

The MPR is light as well, so you probably don't want a super heavy scope up top.

I’d agree that quality glass is key, especially at higher magnification. 25-30 on the top end should be plenty. I ran a zco 5-27 for Frank’s class where we spent most of our time between 300 and 1250yrds. I rarely ever used more than 20x mag, but a few times it was nice to zoom in a little extra, especially early in the morning before mirage got too bad.

With a $2k budget I’d go for a razor or try and find a used S&B PMII.
