I find the Remington website a pain in the ass to navigate through.. I am trying to find just the Rem 700 300 win mag for use in a AICS but there are tons of 700 models and I truly would just like the upper portion without a stock but they don't sell just that.. Anyone have what they think is the best model to go with for the AICS in a 300 winmag? I prefer to be able to change the barrel out so having it threaded is a plus as well as fluted but not stainless steel.. I can't seem to find what I want in a match grade model for the AICS that isn't all stainless steel.. Even the fluted bolt would be nice as well as a nice flash suppressor or threaded end for silencer.. And at least 26" barrel. Yeah yeah I have searched the forums and all I find is people saying any rem 700 will fit chassis.. That is not what I am asking..

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

Closest thing to what you want is a 700P http://www.remingtonle.com/rifles/700p.htm It's a varmint weight barrel,ordnance-grade steel as they call it, not stainless. It's a factory barrel, not really match grade though. If you want to be able to change the barrel out yourself as in a switch barrel set up, that's not a factory option. Same as a fluted bolt or a threaded muzzle other than the AAC .308 model. It really sounds like what you want is a custom build.

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

Yea I doubt they carry exactly what I am wanting. I just wonder now who out there does have what I want to drop into the AICS...

I wonder also if the 700p is available to public?

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

You could just buy a large action receiver from here or a retailer such as midway, brownells, buy a barrel for it, AICS, and send it off to your favorite smith. You being deployed can do all of this while being overseas just have them ship everything to your smith and by the time you get back it should be done. If I was going to do a AICS system, I would go with a Badger m2008 long action. Heavy but tough as hell.

I thought rem 700 was the only ones that fit in a AICS? If there is others out there that fit without bedding then yeah I am down for doing that..I will look into the Badger thx!

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

The AICS is designed for the 700 action or any aftermarket action that has the same footprint. Those actions will drop right in. Some aftermarket recoil lugs used with the 700 action or aftermarket 700 footprint actions that have a large recoil lug may require minor machining of the chassis or the lug to fit in. Actions such as the Badger, require more extensive machining of the chassis to work. Some aftermarket actions may not be compatible at all. Why not just get an AIAW spec'd out the way you want.

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

Well I would but I was trying to save some money on it by just getting the various parts and putting it together myself but if there is going to be some gunsmithing involved then yeah I might as well just buy from AI.

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

I learned a lot by buying a Rem 700 SPS in 308, an AICS stock then had my gunsmith put a new barrel on it (in Rem 260) and put a new trigger. Total cost around $2000.

Well see that is what I was trying to do by getting a rem 700 300 winmag then a aics to drop it in with a surgeon action and a threaded mcmillin barrel or kreuger.. If I could do all that which probably involves a blacksmith and still save money compared to buying the whole rifle from AI then I think I will go that route. I just am not sure what all that is going to cost now.. I suppose I will buy the cheapest rem 700 300win mag Remington has for sell I guess for starters.. I dunno.. Maybe I should see if I survive this shit I am in first lol but gun talking does keep my mind off the mortar fire incoming..

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

i don't have any experience with the AICS and had a quick question.

How does say dropping a barreled R700 that has standard factory inlet mag setup into a AICS work as far as setting it up to use a detachable mag?

In the future i would like to get a AICS but again not sure how this works?

are they setup to accept mags as is, or does some work need to be done to action, stock ect... to get it to work?

sorry if my lingo is a little off on this subject i hope my point is understood

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

you take your remingtion 700 out of it's current stock, then drop it in the AICS stock and screw it in with the screws provided and you're done. it comes with a mag and will accept them with no work needed. it will take you less than 5 minutes.

A rem model 700 will fit into the aics with usually no modifications "bedding" just remove the cartridge plate and that is where the mag goes. The mag fits into it and connects to chassis if I am not mistaken.. I found a step by step here: AICS Install on Rem 700

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

They now have the Rem 700 SPS long range. Its available in .300 Win. Drop than in the AICS and you have what you want.

All barrels are threaded at the receiver...I'm not sure what you mean by threaded unless you're talking about adding a muzzle device? Could you be more clear?

Ok I will look into the Rem 700 SPS and yea I was talking about threaded into the receiver I didn't know they where all threaded I thought some might be pressed. Is the SPS a 26" barrel? I will look into it.. Thanks!

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

All Remington 700 receivers are threaded except for their entry level Wal-Mart guns which have a different model number designation. If you drop the SPS into the AICS you will not look back. I have two Remingtons one is the SPS 308 varmint that I dropped into an AICS and the other is a Remington MLR in 338 Lapua. They shoot very very well with this upgrade and I did not have to have a gunsmith work on them just dropped them into the new chassis. Only work for the smith was threading the muzzle on the 308 and installing new bolt knobs on both. You get a lot more bang for your buck when you go the AICS route.

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

i think i am leaning towards an AICS...the AX looks pretty good too. Just need to do a little more research on mags and some other things and price it out.

getting excited to piece this all together.

The AICS comes with a mag in case you didn't know.. I am about to start ordering everything soon.. I have decided a Rem. Model 700 .300 WinMag with a Surgeon bolt action and 26" Kruger barrel fluted and threaded end for Suppressor and/or Silencer. Any thoughts about that configuration guys?

Re: What Rem 700 model best for AICS?

Depends on how much money that you are willing to spend, the list of items that you just posted are kind of pricey. If it was me I would get the Remmy the way you want it drop in the AICS and shoot it to see what your accuracy is like before you do anything to the action, bolt or muzzle. Worst case scenerio if it does not shoot the way you want it sell it then upgrade to the Surgeon. The sky is the limit if your wallet does not feel any pain.

Oh I am pretty darn accurate with long rifles and don't mind spending a little extra cash for a good setup just wondering what that good set up should consist of.. Whatever this build will be it will be the last build I will want to make so I am trying to get it all right the first go around.
