I have 4 factory Remington 700 ADLs. .243, 25/06, .308, and 7mm Remington Magnum. They are all identical except for caliber. I use them all for hunting at distances of less than 200 yards and am looking to shoot to 600 yards with one of them. Which of these calibers should I play with? I know that the factory stocks suck so I would be looking to upgrade the stock and scope on the one I pick. I hand load my own bullets so please consider that with your recommendation. Which caliber would you pick?

308 would be my choice.....especially for anything within 600......itll handle that no problem......and ammo is easy to find in just about any loading you could want.

however if you were planning on shooting out to 1000+.....7mm mag would be hard to beat.

Seems like you have several options. As Mc. stated 308 is a great place to start plenty of match grade ammo and great barrel life. 243 is also a great round with plenty of great high bc projectiles less recoil but also less barrel life. If you plan on going past a thousand the 7mm is the best option. Again shorter barrel life and way more recoil to deal with. If you are keeping it mostly factory except for the stock/chassis. Which of the current rifles show the most inherent accuracy. That might help you make the decision. Personally I would go with the 243 fun round with great ballistics. Just know you'll need to rebarrel fairly quickly

Thanks for the feedback. I like the minimal recoil on the 243. I also like the abundance of ammo in 308 selections. I have not yet shot out a barrel. I shoot about 50 rounds in each rifle annually and mainly hunt with bi monthly range sessions. The 7RM shoots 3/4" 5 shot groups with handloads and is the most accurate, but most recoil abuse. I think I am going to start with 308 as it seems very common and work from there.

Get your skills refined with a 308 and shoot the shit out of it. When you start understanding how to combat the wind and split hairs, switch to the 6.5 creed or something similar of your liking.

What he said. If your an actual reloader, try a high bc bullet that works with your rifle twist. The 6.5 only shines past 500-1000. Pick your poison. You will learn with any caliber or you aren't paying attention!!!
