Rifle Scopes What scope for POF P308 16.5"

I bought a POF P308 NP3 16.5" back in March. I picked up a SIG 556R in April and put a Browe BCO 7.62x39 4x LED optic on it which has left the POF sitting in the safe since its purchase. I bought the POF for 200-1000 yard shooting. There are so many glass options out there I haven't been able to make up my mind on what to buy. I bought a Larue LT-104 QD 30mm scope mount which is on the way.

Here are some of my requirements
-Be able to still make accurate hits from 50-200 yards
-Be able to make hits out to 1000 yards
-Cost to stay at $1000 or less

List of scopes Im considering
-SWFA SS 3-15x42 FFP Mil-Quad Reticle $699.95
-Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP EBR-1 MRAD $899.00

Any suggestions that you think I should be looking at or experience with these scopes would be helpful.

I've been through several scopes on my 16.5" P-308 trying to find the right balance of size, clarity and enough elevation adjustment to really get out there. Right now I'm back to a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 to keep it lightweight waiting on hunting season to start, and while I save up for a Nightforce 2.5-10x42. For precision shooting past 500 yards I wouldn't recommend the Leupold I have. Reticle is too thick and there's not enough elevation to get very far with it if you're dialing for all your shots.

A good one to look at in your price range is the Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 w/ the EMDR retcle. FFP, good glass and repeatable adjustments. The illumination is just about useless as it's always too bright and its a little heavy at 26 oz, but a nice scope and a good value overall.

Never used either the SWFA or the VIPER PST, but depending on how late in the evning you'll be shooting I'd not choose an objective size under 50mm for a 15x scope. Been through that and felt it wasn't bright enough. I shoot at night also though, so this may not matter to you if you only shoot during daylight.

One thing I can tell you is that for shooting out to 1000, you're probably going to need a 20 MOA canted mount of some kind, I've only shot mine out to 800 yards, but it took 9 mils of elevation to get it there and JBM says I'd need 13.5 to get to 1000. None of the scopes I've used had that kind of elevation left after zero-ing without help. I just bought a Badger Ordnance 20 MOA Unimount for this, but the 22 MOA riser they make would work too.

The 16.5" barrels are nice and handy, but not speed demons and the wind pushes my loads all over the place past 300 yards, get your wind doping cap on for long shots.

I have the same P308 and went with the Bushnell Tactical 3x12x44 G2 With the way the top of the P308 is built your will need a PRI stock to even see out of the Larue mount. I put mine in Medium Burris rings to bring it down to almost touching the rail. You will need a 20Moa base to get out far.

How do you like it. I'm Thinking of moving my 3-21 G2 DMR from my .308 gas gun over to my new .260 bolt gun and replacing the DMR with the 3-12x44 G2?

It seems a Used DMR G2 is around what a new 3-12 FFP would cost so I may just get another DMR................. what do you think?
