I can personally vouch for the Vortex PST 6-24. Phenomenal optic and only $850 so you can drop it in a set of Badgers and stay right at the $1K.
I havent used one, but the new Super Sniper is supposed to be good as well.
Another reason I was so happy to see the PST turn out so well, it could do nothing but drive the market toward high quality optics without us having to drop $2500.
Now we are starting to see excellent options at about 1/3 the price. Damn I love the free market. Especially when it is unmolested.

Look into the sightron s3's, 6-24, 8-32, 10-50, so the magnification is available for great distances.
I run the 8-32x56 and hope to get out to 1000 soon, but for now, 300 and 600 yard fclass is my game.

I sent two hide members personal messages asking them how the new SS stacked up to the Nightforce SFP and each said the same. "they would not consider switching from NF to the SS 5-20 a step back AT ALL!" In fact " one stated and the other insinuated that I would be very happy swapping my NFs for the new SS!

Prolly no doubt that the SS and the PST are phenominal scopes especially for the money. However I do everything in my power every chance I can to buy American. $1000, PST or Sightron, used NXS. I went NXS for my 300, and will be buying another NXS for my 308. I am sold on quality and ruggedness. They are proven, period.

I would recommend doing a lot of research on several different scopes that you think you might want. And after settling on a couple, go to the the 'optics for sale' section here and check it often for a couple weeks. You will find a great deal. I personally love the IOR scopes, never had any issues with the 3 I have owned. And I have bought 2 from here for good deals. Ran a sightron 6-24 on on my 300 UM, swapped it to the 300 tomahawk, had it on the 223, even the 25-06. I have to say that it was a great scope, optics extremely clear and bright. But you are never going to get everyone to agree on the "best glass" just the way it is.. look at a few of the scopes that everyone is using and find on used or new in your price range and go shoot the gun

What are you trying to make 1000 yard shots on? It's kind of funny because a while ago, everyone was talking like you were an idiot if you wanted anything more than a 10X.
Anyway, what kind of shooting are you going to be doing? Lots of guys here are big fans of FFP reticles, whether they need them or not. Depending on the type of shooting that you do, a SFP reticle may be better for you. It is for me.
In any case, I'm still in the Nightforce camp. They make a heck of a scope and it's proven. I'm kind of surprised at all of the guys jumping on the SS bandwagon when it doesn't even have a proven track record yet, let alone that fact that no one has asked about the type of shooting that you are going to be doing. From what I've seen, a FFP reticle (at least some, anyway) will cover more of the target at maximum magnification than a SFP reticle will, so it depends on what you need.
If you're just going to be banging on steel and other larger targets, I'd take a look at a Nightforce 2.5-10X32. It is made in the USA (mine are anyway), it's small, relatively light and fast into action. I shot a 2.5-10X32 for a good while, before I got into poking holes in paper. I'm shooting a 5.5-22X50 now. I don't know how a real "sniper" would feel about having to use this scope, but I know that I like it and it serves my needs well. Figuring out the graduations on the reticle at 11X and 5.5X isn't hard either.

I've got a NF 8-32x56 on my 308 and love it. Granted I don't use the high end magnification for much other than verifying hits, but still love the ABILITY even if its not that functional.
Glass is clear, scope is proven, and it meets my needs (BR with a little deer hunting).

Don't forget you are going to need proper rings and likely a 20MOA base, this will limit your scope to around $850. I've shot 1000yds once so far and was using a Sightron SII Big Sky 6-24. It worked out well and I certainly didn't feel that I needed anything more. I also have the SIII 20x fixed and should have an SIII 6-24 (probably the one you looked at on here) soon. As you can see, I would surely recommend them and they fit within your budget quite well (6-24 SIII's are around 800ish and the Big Sky is around 600).
Don't forget you are going to need proper rings and likely a 20MOA base, this will limit your scope to around $850. I've shot 1000yds once so far and was using a Sightron SII Big Sky 6-24. I have the Sightron SIII 8-32x56 and would recommend giving them a good look. Only using mine out to about 650 though, so can't say how well she sees at a grand.
