Gunsmithing what sight pusher do the professional gunsmiths use?

as the title states, which one do you guys use?

it will be used on 1911s, sig 226s (old and new slides) and 938s, glocks, XD-s, basically everything.

This, I've never seen a pusher that worked well. There are some sights that just won't move without impact.

wont that damage the tritium night sights?

i will also be changing out the low sights for suppressor sights on many different pistols.

and the 3 dot for fiber optic and the no dot for the rear site.

The best thing is a hammer and brass/aluminum punch. I have seen guys buy expensive sight pushers and they were all disappointed with them.

C-clamps work. Brass punch, hammer and a wood block works also.

I've used almost every "professional" sight pusher out there it seems like, and yet I always go back to the old brass punch. The trick is you don't hit the sight on the side of the sight post, you hit the base so that there's no shock to the tritium tubes. I like a little harder $12 naval brass, and it works every time without hesitation. My $500 Meprolight Universal Sight Installation Tool on the other hand...................................... stays in the bottom of a junk box.

All that aside, the best "success" I've personally had have been with MGW sight presses, however they're model specific and at $130 a piece, it gets pricey to have all the proper ones on hand.

i tend to be very destructive when i have a hammer in my hand (philosophy of beating things into submission, or smash the shit out of it so i can buy a new one), so maybe i am better off taking it to a gunsmith.

If you do it yourself, some sights are slightly tapered. So they will go in one way. Make sure your tapping them the right way.

I just use my damned mill. It'll make those bitches submit. Meprolite tool works pretty good but it won't hold many slides well. XD's are near impossible to remove unless they changed something. That's when the hammer comes in. None of them work really well across the board.

Installing new sights generally requires some fitting if you don't know.

For the rest; Never hammer on night sights.

I can take pictures of work on monday for our sight setup. We do remove sights with a hammer and steel punch, with the slide in a very nice vice. The sights get put in the pusher for installation, you can get them pretty exact that way.

I used to hate doing XD(M) sights, then realized that they are directional. Once I finished pounding my head against the wall, a small diameter steel punch on the base of the sight knocks it out in three whacks.

I've got a B and J universal sight pusher tool and like someone else said it sits in the bottom of my tool box and I use a brass drift to drive them in and out. I've marred more slides using this tool than I care to admit.
I had an XD tactical that I needed a fiber optic front sight on and ended up using a hacksaw to cut it in half to get it out. PITA!!!!

I use the B&J. It is not without it's issues. I've even taken my time to go to B&J and discuss some of the issues with them. It is apparent that they will not, even after saying they would like to make it better. Anywho, I still use it. After fucking some shit up in the beginning I have learned how to use it without any issues. If I was a machinist I would build my own. Since I am not, I am stuck adapting to shit engineering and materials.

I made this one after I Paid a gunsmith to push some night sights into my Kimber and at no charge he put a line into the slide and a spot into the rear sight. I will never pay for someone to F up my toys again .
