I have remington 700p. I am putting a millet 4-16x50 scope with 30mm tube. The base is 0moa i am thinkin high should be fine but want to get as close to barrel as i can. I dont have all the necessities to figure it out so i thought i would ask. I have been looking at EGW rings they have a set that is .840 high for 56.00 and a set .850 for 90.00. Will the .840 work for me? Thanks

There are half a billion threads out there that tell you how to work out what rings you need. Personally, I think you're better off taking the whole gun into a store and having them show you your options and then they'll mount the scope for you.

Do some simple math and grab a straight edge and a ruler.

Outside bell diameter/2 = B/2
(B/2)-ring height from rail =

Thats the amount of clearance you need from the straightedge coming off your base to the barrel where the scope bell will be.

But to answer your question, medium rings should be fine with a picatinny 0moa base and 50mm tube. Depends on your barrel contour though. Get the base first, then order rings, or youll probably get the wrong stuff.

Oh, and check out sticky #2 on the rifle scope page

Re: What size rings for millet 4-15x50?

I have this scope on a 700 short tactical. I have used a STD leupold base and 30mm med. rings. BUT, the bolt handle is so close to the power adjustment ring when operating the bolt it makes it diffacult (hard) to use it with any amount of speed.

in the defense of the OP how can you measure a scope you dont own yet?... not sure if thats his situation but ive found myself laughing when people recommend you just measure your scope when you dont have it yet.

scenario is this... your trying to order all three at once...rings, base, and scope... measure scope...huh?...... *puts ruler up to computer screen*

simple answer is just research what people are doing..cross your fingers and click "confirm order".

youd think scope distributors would list the outer diameter of the bell on the page along with all the other dimensions they give you.
