What Stock Are You Running on Your Hunting Rifle

Not even close. The butt of the Game Stalker doesn't resemble a McMillan Hunter and the forend is a lot larger than a Remington Classic. The forend is about the size of an HTG, it may be an HTG forend.

From what I was told the McMillan Rem Hunter and the Game Hunter were combined into the Game Stalker....From McMillan website.

Forearm Width = 1.86"
Butt Width = 1.99"
Grip Width = 1.62"


McMillan Hunter:
Forearm Width = 1.5"
Butt Width = 2.0"
Grip Width = 1.79"

Also seem to be as good as any when it comes to quality. I want to build another rig in in an xlr element magnesium with the all carbon folder rear. Keep it short and around 8.5 lbs all up. Waiting to see what the 4.0 version that's not out yet brings

No problem. They work well but I have been contemplating doing the 4.25" area419 arcs rail in its place. Just a more sleek/slim design. Its not needed but why not I guess.. Been running these like this for 2 years. Honestly we really only hunt/shoot off a bipod and prefer a pic rail for that but have it setup for s tripod just incase for that "right" situation

I'm using an accurate mag chassis with an MBA3 buttstock. I recently started using stocks like a McMillan A2 and an HS Precision but it became clear to me that stocks are a no go for me. They look beautiful but somehow i didn't like them for hunting.

nice bro! This is the 16.5” 6.5CM I built for my daughter. Great little rifle just a little light for elk. It’s on an Origin so just need to get her another barrel for it. Thinkin 7wsm or 300wsm. Just need to make sure it’s not gonna rattle her filings loose when she shoots it. Lol

yeah the 419 installed with t posts is very sleek, but I do wish they were smooth arca plates instead of the ribbed edges. Be a bit more comfortable to grab onto lol. I’ve quit carrying a bipod while backpack hunting and just use my tripod for everything.

I agree on the ribbed edges. Its the super quick deploy of the bipod and a little bit of the sturdiness that keeps me packing the bipod. I most likely wouldn't of been able to shoot a bull this year on one of my hunts had I only had a tripod... Shooter bull stepped out at 350 and only had seconds to drop down prone and take the shot before he took off.

That is correct. And those are just the cheap bog-pod sb-2 shooting sticks. Never leave home without them.

If you order the tripod ready AG, the hole spacing is set up for the Blackline Precision mount, which is smooth, and VERY low profile. They don't have it on their site, but a phone call and $40, and it will be in its way.

I was under the assumption that all AG stocks had aluminum in the forearm that you could drill and tap for an Arca. Today, I drilled and tapped the foreend of my 2nd Alpine Hunter which was not a tripod ready model, and there was no aluminum in there. I drilled in the same location as the other stock, and nothing...so I used countersunk rivnuts and 10-24 screws to mount the plate I got from Ken Trapp at Salmon River Solutions. The plate from Salmon River. I highly recommend either product.

I went down this very path brother. I decided to go with a Manners T Elite carbon, pillar bedded: flush cups on left. Cal. 6.5 cm, Barrel Manufacturer: Brux #5 contour: 1:8 twist; 20". Headspace .0015" gap. Muzzle Device: Threaded 5/8x24 with knurled protector. Topside optic = TT 3 x 15.
My rear view mirror decisions. IMO, lite rifles are easy to carry but delicate to shoot.

My favorite for a sporter weight barrel is by far the McM Hunter. It has a narrow fore end and a palm swell that just fits me.

One in long action and one short.

For a heavier barrel, the HTG does ok....

Since its Sendero model stay with the wide forend so you can put your Arca Rail on it at some point.I had a Sendero and it was way too heavy built for Elk hunting,especilly in mountains in my opinion. I see you are going with a 26 inch Proof Sendero Light Barre with1 in 8.5 twist.l. It sounds heavy for a Elk Rifle though in the mountains.I dont think .I take it that this rifle will need to serve two avenues..Hunting Elk & PRS Shooting.Which Im sure you will shoot it more at PRS matches vs El;k Hunting.I wish you good luck.Build it for PRS Shooting and just tough it out on a few Elk hunts..Maybe you will get lucky and tag out on day one..

nah man, if this was a PRS rifle it wouldnt be in a traditional stock, have the Sendero Lt profile, BDL Floorplate, have a CF barrel and damn sure wouldn’t be a LA 7mm Mag. Lol

I’m betting with a 24” CF Sendero Lt (2.5lbs-ish) and 30oz-ish stock with BDL BM, it’ll be in the 9lb range glassed up. Way to light for PRS and just about right for a hunting rifle.

Nothing wrong with classic rifles. They killed a lot of critters for sure. M1903’s, M70’s and 8x Unertls have stacked a lot of bodies too, doesnt mean there aren’t better more capable weapons systems out there to do the job today.

i love Manners stocks and the way they treat me. My last 2 builds have been 6.5 PRCs built on XM length actions/Bartlein bbls bedded in the EH-1A. My next planned build is a short barreled 6 dasher bedded in the folding version of the EH1A.
Only going to consider another company when I’m building an inexpensive toy and quality isn’t priority

I got to hold and play with a real classic this evening.........Sharps 45-70 falling block. Off topic, just had to throw it in. It was really fun playing with the Sharps, Ruger #1s, & I forget model # but Winchester lever action, octagon barrel in 45-70.

They come in even a little lighter than that Just picked up a 2nd one for another build - they are a nice option especially if running a CF wrapper barrel.

I'm a big fan of my Manners EH1. As a cheaper version, that I'm very comfortable with, is the Greybull Precision vertical grip stock. I assume B&C made it for them, but I'm not sure they are even still in business.

And a manners SL - super light, 27oz. On another rig.

Both are carbon fiber. I definitely wouldnt rule out a stock from AG.

If you want to mount a bipod, go to GG&G and get their picatinny slinge swivel mount. Replaces the front sling swivel and has a sling swivel built in to the rear of the mount. $80 if I remember correctly. I have it on 3 guns. Works perfect.

I’ve got a Game Scout, just ordered a Game Warden. In theoy, my Bartlein CF shouldn’t fit in the Game Scout, but it does (nicely!). You can spec different rail options if you’re willing to commit when you order. I started with a M70, not a M700, and went with a 24” barrel, and kept the standard bottom metal. With 1.75 lbs of optic and mount riding the rifle, it comes in around 9.5 lbs. Lighter than it was, but definitely not light.

I love that stock design. Haven’t had an EH1 to compare it to, but that was the only other real option for me.

Well, for the hunting rifle of the day, I have a Howa 1500 Standard Hunter (that came with a walnut stock seemingly made by a blind freshman) into a Bell & Carlson, which itself required me correcting some half-assery with a sandpaper-covered dowel. It's not as light as my Tikka T3x Ultralite, of course, but I find it more comfortable to use in the right situation. I sent my garbage factory walnut stock to Howa over a month ago with approval for warranty replacement (and even with their shipping label) and haven't heard a single peep, so I just got a new stock. Now I know how Howa acts... maybe I'll see a replacement one day. The scope is the Cabela's Euro Instinct made by Meopta. Quite clear glass. Love the build quality.

what bartlein contour do you have, and what did you specify with McMillan?

I've got a #13 CF (in red...color is very subtle, as you can tell) on a M70 in my Game Scout. I didn't/forgot to spec a different barrel (or it didn't make the build sheet and I missed it). I spec'd that barrel contour on the stock I just oredered and Josh called me and said he swapped me to a Game Warden to accommodate that contour and that is is marginally wider/deeper in the forend. My hope is I cannot tell the difference, but we'll see when I get them side by side.

As for the rifle as pictured, the barrel floats to the bedding/barrel knox. ETA - I don’t know that it comes through on the attachment, but the lighting in the original photo is such that you can actually see the gap between the stock and the barrel.

I am still running the HS Precision that came with the original Remington 700 Sendero 7mm Mag. It weighs in right at 2 pounds and locks everything in tight. It is what I have historically used for elk and deer in Nevada, until this year, when it got replaced by a new rifle after 20 years of hunting and traveling.

If I was building from the receiver out though, it'd be the McMillan Game Warden.
