F T/R Competition What stock should I use?

I plan on shooting more F class matches this summer. I will use an RPR or one of my Remington 700's. I need to decide on a stock for it, preferably below $300. Currently I have a Archangel 700AA or whatever the model is on it, and it is not flimsy at all. Completely free floated and bulky and comfortable. The stock that came with the rifle was a flimsy piece of junk. Anyone have any suggestions?

Any stock should do as long as it makes weight. The Archangel is pretty heavy. Might want to throw your rifle on a scale with glass, bi-pod, empty mag and see how it comes out. 18lbs I believe is the limit.

If the rifle shoots well as is, shoot it as is. Go and have a good time. Take your 300 and set it aside. Add to it when you can. At end of season see what you've got and maybe something will come along. I grabbed a NIB McMillan A3/5 from another board for 600 shipped because it wasn't painted. It's perfect for me.

Agree with above post if the gun makes weight shoot what you have.

I have used both a Manners T4A and a custom stock on my Ftr. Now it wears a Choate Tac stock which has a full length aluminum bedding block (into the forend for bipod support). With extra spacers for length, and the tall cheek rest, it fits me perfectly as do the other two I use. I am sticking with the Choate because I found it fits my anatomy well, and it shoots just as well as the much more expensive stocks I have shot before. Not bad for $200.

The Choate Tactical is one I have a pair of, albeit the Savage action version. They are robust, have a full length aluminum bedding block, and are no cream puffs, still weighing 3.688lb. They also have a version with adjustable cheek, but that runs $499. If that's needed, look into the Karstens as an add-on.

My guns are heavy barrel Savage 11VT's, a .223 and a .308 set up for F T/R. As long as you keep you scope mounting reasonably low, no cheek rest adjusters are needs. My scopes have 44mm objective diameters, clear the barrel by about 1/16", and I can use the stock just the way it comes.

Had to clean up the area under the bolt but with federal GMM it shot dime size 3 round groups at 100yds, 5 round shot was 1 ragged hole about the a of a quarter
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
