I have looked and never got a solid answer. What throat on reamer when using necked up 6.5x284 Lapua brass to 284 and shooting 180gr Berger Match HYBRID target bullets and also none of the bullet touching the doughnut from necking up the brass? I know it will have a .317-.318 neck. Dave Kiff has a 284 Match which has .188FB but with my measurements, that seems short which means the bullet will be in the doughnut.

The bearing surface of that particular bullet is .459 in length. The 6.5x284 has a neck length of .264 so if I subtract .264 from .459 I get .195. Right? Is anybody running this FB? I don`t care about trying to fit in mag box as this is in a single shot bolt gun.

Ping bzinbv here. He has his own reamer and chambers his 284 barrels himself for the heavies.

You have to consider the gap between the case and the transition angle as well as the transition angle itself. Those two measurements will be a minimum of .030". With a .264" neck length it might be closer to .050". You need to see the reamer print to know exactly what it will be.
A hybrid bullet nose will contact the lands before the bearing surface contacts.
Considering those three things, I'd guess the .188" will work for you.

Agree with the above, but...
284 from 300wm magazines provides about 3 miles of seating depth wiggle room.
No reason to go shorter, rather than longer on FB with a long action 284.

Easiest way is to load a dummy rd the way you want it and send it to PTG. Specify your neck clearance, and "jump", and let Mr Kiff fill in the rest. Viola you get what you want! krw
