what to do?

I tested a few loads today for a .243 that belongs to a friend. I found a load that shoots less than 1/2" at 100yds using a 100gr remington corelokt and 41.0gr of IMR4350. The velocity was 2785. He uses this gun for a hunting rifle for his kids. The velocity seems a little low and the powder is almost at the max according to the books, should I try to load it up a little or leave well enough alone? The temp was 90+ and the humidity was 70%, I dont think the load will be too much under any condition if its not now.

1/2" with corelokts, I'd leave well enough alone. I did similar with my 7mm-08 hunting rig. I bought a bag of win brass and they were a little beat up from the shipping so I thought I'd fireform them. Went and got the cheapest Hornady bullets offered at the local gun shop. Had just enough of some powder I used to load 30-06 with (sold the '06). I threw it all together and it shot 1" groups at 100. A couple quick shots to get zeroed and 2 four round groups. Both measured under 1". I stopped fireforming. I have taken three bucks and a coyote so far. All the fancy bullets and stuff will have to wait till these rounds are gone.

If perfect is good enough, that load is good enough.

My .243 and 100 Gr. Hornady's have killed quite a few white tail with 2700 fps loads. NOTHING has ever lived more than a few seconds after the hit.

The very first load I threw together for my .243 was with IMR4350 and Nosler, 95 grain partitions that shot 1/2" at 100 yards.

My son still uses that rifle, and load for deer, and it seems to anchor them as well as anything else I've used, and I've used 7mm-08, .308, 30-06, 7mm Remington magnum, and .338 Winchester magnum.
