So I've been dabbling in cheaper bolt guns, and wanted to try my hand at longer range, more precision shooting, and picked up a handful of things. I've been shooting AR's, LOTS of .223 guns from bolt, semi, and single shot setups. My range will be 100-600 or maybe 700 on a REALLY good day. I'm sticking to .308 because over and over I'm told that it is pretty much the go-to round for folks learning. I'm also not reloading currently and with my allotted time, kids, budget, and more it really is just cheaper to buy FGMM or other Hornady A-Max rounds. I'm kind of a trigger junkie, and really like a trigger sub 2lbs, but I'm going to first give the factory trigger a shot and see what I like or don't like about it. I'm used to a 2 stage trigger, or an accutrigger, so the R700 will be a new feel for me. Anyway, here is what I've bought so far;
Remington 700 5R 24" stainless
Both a Murphy Precision stainless 10moa base/Leupold MKIV 20MOA steel base
American Rifle Co M10 Medium rings
Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 30mm scope
Harris 1A2 6-9" bipod
(rear bags I already have)
So far that is about it. I have cases, accessories, LOTS of various ammo from 168gr AMAX to FGMM, and other stuff
First thing I may buy after getting it out a few times would be a trigger, but was just kicking around some ideas for what I MUST HAVE. Let me know what you think of it thus far as for my choices, and where you would take it from here.
