Re: What yardage do you sight muzzleloader in at?
I have sighted mine in at 100yd, 125yd, and 70 yd; mainly to stay about 2/3 of the way out to my longer shots under the expected conditions.
Here in the Northeast, cover and sight lines tend to make for shorter shots, and I've had my best success using the 70yd sight-in distance for all my Deer guns. These also includes 20ga Slug guns and a dot scoped .44 Mag '94AE Trapper Carbine lever gun.
I have a percussion sidelock with a 33" barrel, and use 295gr Powerbelts and 85gr of RS Select. Groups nice'n tight at 125yd. Not quite so bad on the shoulder, either. It has Buckhorns.
If I were shooting longer distances, I'd likely be using an inline, sabots, and heavier charges, but in close like I hunt, the 295's and moderate charges work well enough.
Unless it's M/L season, though; I stick with centerfire, and put my main faith in the lever gun.
I may try Triple Seven this year.
