I'm looking for some slings for two of my rifles, which are just standard AR's with no other forms of attachment.

The crappy nylon sling Stag sent me with my 20" A4 slipped out of the crappy plastic buckles and off fell the rifle. Luckily it landed on high grass and didn't damage anything.

Also, I'm not sure what sling to use on my M4. It has a 6 position stock with one of those cheek rests for it:

And also has a Larue 7.0 free float rail which has a (I think) has QD cup mounts like a McMillan.

I'm not fond of the slings that ride the length of the rifle on the side, as it looks like it'd get in the way of the bolt release.

For two point slings i hunt with the vickers padded tactical. They sell them with or without QD. I personally like withought the qd swivels since i can run them either way and they have more range of adjustment with the extra sling length

Jellostorm...

If you go to a good-sized police supply store or a dealer who carries a lot of the Blackhawk slings, you can try a bunch of styles and types. Four point, single point, Chalker, etc. etc. etc.

There are as many different slings on the market as there are opinions as to which one is the best. One will work for you and you'll try it and have an 'ah ha' moment!

Couple of things you need to think about... are you looking for a transition-type sling? In other words one that will hold your rifle while you move to handgun? Are you looking for a target sling that you can 'loop' over your your arm for stability in various shooting positions? Looking for something to put over your shoulder while you walk to a hunting stand?

All these 'uses' are best served with slightly different slings.

The advantage of going to a well-stocked store... is that you can sample a lot of different styles. If you are anywhere near Harrisburg, BTW, there is a fantastic police supply store right off the Interstate. Near Lewisberry about 1 minute off the highway. Totally worth stopping by. Massive inventory (incl. alot of precision rifle stuff) and great, helpful sales guys.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Two-point sling; VTAC. All the way.

Other slings tend to be gimmicky for real use. Single-points are worthless. You want two-point.

Vicker's Blue Force is a close second, but the material used in the sling is difficult to adjust quickly and easily. There are other slings that are built similar to the VTAC, but the materials or buckles they use are inferior. Kyle Lamb's VTAC is the best.

All slings suck, some just less than others. That said Viking or Vickers. Of the two I prefer the Viking.
