What's in your Case...

I've recently made the jump from the Chinesium Bass Pro/Plano cases to a full-fledged pelican storm case and now have the luxuries of being able to purchase a custom foam insert. My question to you all is what else do y'all put in your cases aside from the rifle itself (duh), cutout for the bolt, some ammo, and mags? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Rifffle
Bipod or Sling (or both if you're into that)
Mags
Ammo
Cleaning rod/kit, oil/grease
Allen/tor-x keys for assorted screws and shit on the optics/rifffle
Ear pro
Kestrel/DOPE book (or both)
Extra batteries for whatever takes batteries.

I have a hard case with a double gun bag which fits perfectly in them. Flying I put the double into the hard case, or a quick range trip I can pack 2 full size guns and get to the range. Works for me.

These guys are Australian.

My foam in my pelican looks like crap but still holds rifle securely. Over time I have changed many things on my setup and have had to make modifications to the foam. If you do a custom cut out remember as soon as you change something it wont fit the same. You dont have to have a perfect custom cut to hold things in place but it does look nice.

Rifle with bipod and magazines
Cleaning rod and micro cleaning kit
Maybe other optics

Nothing else unless I need to. And only use a pelican for flying really or throwing in the bed of truck.

Pelicans are great but heavy and akward (especially for precision rifles)

All my other stuff goes into a small pack. If I'm flying I just drop the pack and whatever else I need into another pelican case

Instead of custom cut foam, get a good quality drop bag and put ut in the case. Everything is already in the pockets and you can change anything around easily. Just open the case at the range and pull out the drag bag. Much easier with all the protection. I had foam first. I quickly learned to find a small multipocket tool bag for my little things and not do specific cutouts.

rifle w/bipod, spot for both mags, suppressor, bolt.

Im not sure why some people try to carry everything in their case, which is heavy enough. Put the rest in a pack.

You’ll eventually get tired of lugging around a pelican case to the range and back. A soft case is what you’ll eventually go to.
This. An empty pelican is 17ish pounds of dead weight before adding any guns.

Custom foam sounds nice. However, after 1-2 years you will change stuff on the gun or want to use a different gun and be back to square one. Just take out the middle piece of foam and throw your guns in it and call it a day.

havnt used a hard case for a range trip in a long time...to damn big and heavy.

same with drag bags, they got too heavy and i still need a pack or bag

simple soft bag, with some pouches. that gets the important small stuff to keep the rifle working (basic tools, micro cleaning kit)

serious travel or a bunch of other guys crap tossed in maybe ill want to protection

accessories change all the time and so do their size

dedicated pouches for my gear so i dont forget or loose anything

Sorry for the late reply been off-grid, how does a pelican case with the foam taken out + a soft bag that fits the pelican if a long trip is required?

Lots of guys do that but they leave some foam in

I would at least put padding of some sort on the sides.

most of my hunting and long range stuff required travel. Ive gotten my gun cases from the carousel with foot prints on the case. which means someone is trying to smash my stuff.

since then I do t have any “gun” stuff and I replaced them with guitar and music companies.

Duly noted, Probably glue some foam to the sides and bottom to make a soft case fit. I saw a video where some guy put fishing logos on his cases as to not appear like there's a gun inside when he's checking it in.

I found a nice case at a store near me called Stock & Field.

It is a soft case, it says Tactical on it. It's made by Allen, or Bob Allen. They have been making gun cases and related things for decades. This case is huge! Big enough for the PRS rifle, bi pod folded forward, sling and the scope. It also has 2 big zipper pockets on the front that also have straps to hold them closed. Another nice feature is the thickness, it's not a thin flimsy piece of shit. Add in a shoulder strap, it was around 60$ on sale.

Not airplane safe, but for a decent case to take your rifle to a match it's awsome. I also keep an extra mag in the pocket for chrono duty, I usually forget it at home!

This.

I use Pelican when flying and that’s about it. Rifle, bipod, mags (empty), ears, and few small items. Much more and its “overweight” for most airlines as the case is heavy to begin with. The rest goes in another bag.
