whats the best way to ship a rifle to GA Precision

Re: whats the best way to ship a rifle to GA Precision

UPS works. I would individualy wrap in bubble wrap all the pieces and then place it in a hard case and then place that in a cardboard box (just how I did it twice). Seal it pretty good and all should be well. Make sure to insure it accordingly and it will require adult signature so you will recieve a tracking number.

I've done pretty much the exact same thing Stefan has done when shipping a rifle but another piece of advice I can offer is to forget that you sent it. It helps pass the time and you'll be pleasantly surprised when GAP calls to tell you that it's done and to pay up.

I do the same as those posts above except I use USPS priority mail insured. The UPS folks here are hard to deal with.

Just remember, insurance is good to have but if you pack it really good in a strong case, you probably will not need it.

The last stuff I sent them went USPS Priority insured with a delivery comfirmation number. It vanished for a week. My postmaster placed a few calls and the box got scanned in Kansas City KANSAS a couple of hours later, and showed up at GAP in KC MO the next day.

Also do not forget to include your name, address, phone, job number and content list.

I know it sounds stupid but you'd be amazed how many rifles we have gotten from the UPS store with no other info.

Re: whats the best way to ship a rifle to GA Precision

I normally use UPS to send stuff out. But FedEx is treating me better with taking care of my packages and reliability of getting stuff there on time.

I wrap all parts in bubble wrap, I put the parts in a hard case, hard case goes into a cardboard box. I normally duct tape the latches on the hard case shut. I always include a work order with my name, SH username, items sent, and what I want done with the build.

I have had good luck with UPS so far, no matter what I insure the package for $500 over what the build would be. The more insurance you put the less likely it is going to go missing.

Re: whats the best way to ship a rifle to GA Precision

I wrap mine up like what is said above and send in a rifle case that I want the rifle to come back in. Makes it pretty and secure when it comes back to me via UPS.

Re: whats the best way to ship a rifle to GA Precision

When I sent my rifle to GAP a few years back. I sent it overnight via FedEx and insured. I dropped my locked cased rifle off at FedEx at the last possible moment before the "shipped today" cut off time. I did this because I wanted my rifle in & out of the hands of the shippers (FedEx) as fast as possible! Even thou it was insured to the proper amount, I do not trust some shipping dock worker make $10-15 an hr with my firearm. I would rather watch my beloved rifle be destroyed in front of me, than have it lost out on the streets in the hands of a criminal!

Paranoid, YES! But I feel you can never go to far when it comes to firearm safety and the responsibility of being a firearms owner!

+1 to that, I can't stand leaving a firearm of mine in the irresponsible hands of someone I don't know

Re: whats the best way to ship a rifle to GA Precision

Fedex rules now states that all firearms (handguns and long guns) need to go next day priority. UPS firearms shipping policy distinguishes between handgun (which needs to go next day air) and a long gun which can be shipped with any of their services.

I am a little scared of UPS around my area as they have broken the toe off two rifles of mine (a Cooper and a 03' Mannlicher-Schönauer) thus I go with FedEx most of the time.

When I ship a valuable rifle I just take it to FedEx in a pelican and they will put a hangtag on the 1750's handle and send it like that. I'll also padlock the case with two locks with matching keys; then I'll send the keys to the buyer/dealer/manufacturer.

So someone who makes $10-$15/hr is irresponsible? Where I grew up most people even degreed individuals dont make much over $18. My friend is a nurse out there only bags in around $16/hr. Kinda a shitty statement when you put it in prospective of how the real world lives in some area's.

To the OP.

Drop it off, Insure the hell out of it and dont worry about it. I prefer USPS due to ease but if you have a UPS hub around you then thats also a very good way to go. The number one thing is to insure the hell out of what you have. When I ship items I have sold on here I usually insure for sell value plus a bill or two to compensate for time if an issue arrises. If and I have had a package that was lost or gets lost then they pony up after a bit of wrangling and you march on with it. Insure for Parts value (current replacement value), and 10-20 hours of time value.
