What if we have a Top Secret SCI Yankee White clearance... and $20?

I really have questioned how well I reload lately. I've finally convinced myself to buy a box of 6.5x47 lapua ammo to try and establish how good I am at reloading. Because really I don't know if the accuracy of my rifle exceeds my reloading capability or visa versa.

Not single holes, but these combos shot good for me that day.

Savage 10FP LE2b.

Re: Whats your load recipe for bug holes

6mm BR load is Lapua brass, CCI BR primers, 28.5 gr. of H322 and topped off with 68 gr. Bart's Head Hunters. Cooper Montana Varminter. Off the top of my head I do not recall the seating depth.

260 Rem. load is Lapua brass, CCI BR primers, 42. gr of H4350 topped off with 142. SMK's. Have also tried 139 gr. Scenars as well. 30 thousands off the lands in Sako TRG.

Re: Whats your load recipe for bug holes

175 grain nosler custom comp.seated .018 out of the lands /43.8 grains varget/full prep lapua brass fire formed neck sized only/ fed.210m primers.

bullets all weight matched 174.8 grains I like the noslers they have the least amount of weight variation of any manufacture I weighed.

best 5 shot group .135/ Savage 10 fcp-sr 24in barrel 1in10 100 yards

worked well in my rifle

Re: Whats your load recipe for bug holes

I've never cooked-up a bug hole, never mind written down the recipe.

Does the question ask for your most accurate load regardless of rifle and caliber? Or does it ask, in general, which load was used when two shots happened to touch each other?

Either way, there's a handloading section available a few doors down - complete with pics if there's to be a visual standard for the load.

have you tested the berger's for weight variations compared to the nosler?

All this plus I use an MCR "Meplat Trimmer" to clean up the points. Seems to help on ranges over 300 yards. Only real difference in load is I used BR-2's for primers. Also, rifle is a 5-R Milspec.

Re: Whats your load recipe for bug holes

There ain't a lot of .308s that will shoot bug hole groups with more than one round of any "recipe." An it would be rare to find that any two that could would use the same load to do it. The magic load is an interesting dream but if that were possible all our loading manuals would only list the "bug hole" loads and be done with it.

Re: Whats your load recipe for bug holes

All this talk of bug holes....I'm thrilled if my TRG22 308 and I can shoot consistent .6-.75 inch groups at 100 yards. I think the rifle is capable of better accuracy than that, but that is good enough to keep me happy.

Interestingly, at a seminar many years ago I asked the Federal ammo guy there what their secret load for 308 match was. He demurred, and said that although they ask for the same burning rage of powder, but with the variance in bulk powders they get, they shoot for 2600 FPS with the 168 bullet and call it good.

The load that shot best in both my TRG22 and my DPMS LR308 came out at 2600-2610 FPS.

Re: Whats your load recipe for bug holes

308 FN SPR 20" 1:12 twist.

Load:

155gr Amax seated to 2.900" over 43 grains of Reloader 15, Hornady match brass, and Wolf LG Rifle primers. Yeilds 2650fps with a ES of 10fps.

This load shoots great out of all my 308's. However, the FN SPR has a special lking for it.

Below is a 10 shot group fired prone from a bi-pod and rear bean bag at 110yds. Wind was light 2-3 from 9 o'clock, 85deg, alttitude 1150, pressure 30.32, humidity was 65%.

It seems like this should have been done with a bench rest machine rather than the rifle you described. If its real as you described, amazing shooting.
