Ah 168... you may be wrong on that 'Fedex' theory. Looks like he done fetched it himself.
You filthy bastards. All of ya. I gotta go bust some ass meow. Wait. You know what I mean. Right?

Bro, that tree is one of the toughest/densest SOBs I've ever tackled. I cut some 30" Ash in Chicago and it was a cakewalk compared to that oak. My redneck buddy who helped me carry it off was listening to my Husqvarna 455 bogging down and told me to sharpen the chain. I told him that I started the day with a brand new chain and he thought I was lying. The intermediate rounds were a solid 2-man lift to get them in my truck. I pulled a smaller round out of the pile yesterday to see if it would split. I smashed it with an axe and made it an inch deep and it just spit water back at me. For the first time in my life I'm contemplating the purchase of a log splitter, which really rubs me wrong because manual splitting is my "therapy".
The "good" news is that I salvaged a good portion of that wrecked shed to use as a cover for the split wood once it's done.
I know exactly what ya mean Brother Bogey. At some point it comes down to working smarter and not harder right? 2 guys and a splitter can buzz thru cord after cord of some pretty bad rounds. Leaves plenty of time for liquid therapy......
This is way beyond the Sniper Pro, I am a little concerned now.
Thompson Center Compass from Gander Mountain going out of business sale $175. For my seven year old son. Just need to chop the stock. 308 she's a keeper.
I have three sons he's the oldest. Seven, three and 4 months. Under $200 for a 308 bolt gun we'll get a good return on the investment . Couldn't wipe the grin off his face this afternoon. Looking forward to deer season

Let the hydro's handle those nasty crotch pieces. I split and use every last piece we bring home from the timber. I wouldn't be able to do that without a good splitter. Take it from an 53 year old, work smart and sit by a fire without pain.
I'm with y'all. Now that I'm home that splitter is way overdue, I'm just stubborn and having a serious discussion with myself about whether to rent one, which I hate doing, or just bite the bullet and buy one and be done with it.
For those of y'all who know about splitters, what's the "smallest" that's worth considering? 7ton seems to be about average, on up to 20ton. What do I get with the bigger machine in practical terms? It seems idiotic for me to get a splitter to handle the shit I can't manually split, only to have the machine be underpowered also.
Have you looked at the "flywheel" splitters vs Hydraulic? I don't own a splitter but a few months ago this same type of subject came up here and a couple people posted videos of the Flywheel splitters and they looked fast. All I remember was the the "DR" brand was not built that good according to how the thread went. There are other brands of that style though. Uses a lot less gas also.
I searched for that splitter we were talking about, it's the Super Split. I was wrong in my previous post: I can't afford a new one and they basically don't exist on the used market. However, I've found some resources for building one, so if I lose the rest of my mind that may be an option

brother T, you have the best looking stash, georgous and great job
Fair enough. This would be easy to build if you could find a trashed car.

Got it. Post up in a few minutes.
Bogey, go big brother. Just go big.
Thanks man, but I'm dealing with a new swimming pool liner, a new roof on the house, some Tractor work in the yard, and more St Augustine sod than I want to think about, all without a paycheck. So if money were no object I'd just buy the biggest baddest mofo out there. Unfortunately I need to find the middle ground for a backyard homeowner vs a commercial operation.

Bogey,
if you're open to it, I'd also like to meet up with you and Mike.
I'll buy the first round.
Oh, BTW, I don't think the rubber splitter works for shit.
Or, maybe that's how it's designed...
hell ya, mike, your there or nothing is going down...what ever you guys want to do, i am downtown julie brown ready, really, we could get in trouble ready. lol...
bogey, i craiglist searched firewood in your area and i.m pinging 80 to 100 a face cord, cha ching motha fucka, youre a stud, get studly behind a splitter and sell wood this winter.
when it costs that much, theres a demand and i bet folks really have to call around to find wood, when a cold spell hits. treat it like a job and you are going to say,"damn"
when you see it here, youre going to shake your head, but get started now, is what i want to impress on you...
1j, youre a stud, thanks for the picture hook up, say no to splinters, always
I love this time of summer... Schloss Nitrocellose is at its most tidy. Just mowed about 1/3rd of the fields today. Laid out some new rows for the growing vineyard. And am relaxing with a nice IPA on the deck. 75 degrees, zero humidity and sunny. Life is good!
Cheers,
Sirhr
