Seriously, I moved from the city to a, at the time, small town and we all chipped in to help those in need. We found homes, helped with yard work, helped with food, clothing, and, most importantly, with jobs to ensure fathers felt some worth and contributed to our nice town.
My father helped family and friends and brought them into our home to help them get on their feet. It is what I was assumed we do as neighbors, family, and friends. For those who did nothing but wait for the gubment to provide, we tried and tried and if they did not stand up on their own, we drove them to someone else who thought they might help.
This WAS the BLACK COMMUNITY where I was raised.

I will say one thing, and this will sound strange but I have put some thought into it.There is a lot to say for those coming out of college. This coincides with the near complete reduction of teaching the Humanities in universities. For those that have a 'college education', decades ago, they required reading of great literature, appreciation of art and music, and considered the evolution of the human condition.
Armed with that appreciation, student would at least be armed with a sense of goodness in mankind. By removing that, we have generations of people who argue, cannot listen, and believe in their own individual sense of superiority. All without any sense of history or perspective.
But this is a long topic for another place.
It is entitlement. Everyone thinks the world owes them. The world doesn't owe you anything. You are not special. Passing kindergarten does not get you a diploma. It means you can color.
