I know there is no clear answer, but is there a chance that the law that says hunters cannot bring a polar bear trophy back to the states will change, ever?

A polar bear would make a beautiful trophy, and hunting in the arctic is something I really want to do

Considering Polar Bears are in the Vulnerable (VU) conservation status it isn't likely.

Also, the fact that it falls under the MMPA along with whales, seals, and dolphins doesn't bode well for a lift.

However, as far as i know the MMPA does allow for import of pelts taken on legal hunts in Canada. Canada is about the only place left that a non-first persons can hunt polar bears, and they issue hundreds of permits every year. Also, you might need a permit from FWS to bring it in.

Which lead me to the actual bill:

(Section 105 speaks of polar bears)

I read this article the other day and thought of this very topic. It seems the topic is coming up, though it only seems they are referring the the past and no current/future dated hunts.

For what it is worth, just trying to give y'all some extra stuff. Happened across that article just like I happened across this thread.

When I was living in Alaska, you could purchase a 99 year lease on polar bear rugs and other "prohibited" trophies. As a non native tribe member you couldn't officially "own" it, but you could "rent" it so to speak.

What I found out you could NOT do, was collect eagle feathers. PERIOD.
