I apologize if this is the wrong forum place to post this. I had it within the WTB section without any replies to it.

Trying to find a low price on a AR-30 338. Any suggestions on who usually offers them at the lower price? Lowest I have found so far is $1750 out the door. I am located in Texas.

What are your thoughts on trying to buy a used rifle? I have never purchased a used rifle, but I am in law school and putting money together takes FOREVER when you dont have a job.

First I would look in the for sale section of this site...

Second I would look around your area for an FFL who can make some deals for you.

Third choice is join a local gun club, most will have people wanting to trade or have items for sale

if all else fails, then gun broker has a few good deals that float by.

Brother 338's and no money don't compute. It takes a good bit of money just to shoot the big 338's. Also I have nothing against the AR30 but if want to get the full potential out of a 338 then do it right and go for a custom build. You can go out and buy components as you get the money then send them all to a good smith and have him put it together.

See as your in Texas I'd look at this:
-Stiller Tac 338 $900+tax (if you pick it up from Stiller)
-Krieger Barrel blank $300-350
Then just pick up everything else as it suits you. You will get a MUCH better rifle that has a much better accuracy potential.

I appreciate it guys. I know the 338 is expensive to shoot, but I may have that problem taken care of with a reloading business out of dallas. They will load a good round for about $2.70.

I dont believe I have enough expertise to put together a custom rifle piece meal. I would probably get parts that wouldnt fit right. I guess my best bet is to keep my eye out on gunsamerica and try to nab one when I have that amount together. Ive looked at the local gun dealers. Most of them want an arm and a leg.
