I’m new to the state and trying to find 6.5 creedmoor and am having a helluva time finding any. Also I’m being told you can’t get anything shipped in either.
    Any suggestions?!

    Thank you

Make friends with a good FFL. I deal with a home based guy and he orders ammo in for me. Or if a good deal is found online some retailers will ship direct to your FFL. Calguns has a list who ship in.

Calguns.net is a good resource but you either get ammo at an FFL or find an FFL that will accept ammo shipments. Most FFLs that accept ammo shipments will charge a fee to handle the shipment and process your background check.

Also to pass the ammo purchase background check, the system is a BS anti gun bureaucrats dream. If you haven't purchased a firearm in California in like the last 7 years, you have to have a California REAL ID compliant drivers license, or if you don't, bring something like utility bills to prove your residence address, and bring a US passport.

Buying a gun gets you into the states automated CFARS (California Firearms Automated Reporting System). So does self registering firearms on the online CFARS website. Technically, you are supposed to register your firearms with the CA DOJ Bureau of Firearms which will get you into their automated CFARS system and then get you passed for ammo purchases. Just make sure you don't have any firearms in a configuration that would get them classified as "Assault Weapons". Best thing to do is go to Calguns and click on the Flowcharts in the blue banner that help you determine what on a rifle, pistol, or shotgun would make it illegal.

Most gun shops and FFL recieve ammo or find a big name store thats open. Some you can order online and pickup in store. Some Big 5 and Sportsmans warehouse are open.

Get an FFL03 (Curio and Relics) and COE (Certificate of Eligibility). Will allow you to ship directly to your house.

Not a lot of online sites want to deal with CA having your information on file but I have had luck with the following which have reasonable prices:
    Outdoor Limited
Wholesale Hunter (tended to be a little pricier)
    Target Sports USA

Heard Prime Ammo will also ship to CA with the appropriate info but haven't receive a response from them.

Jim at prime ships me ammo to my front door, with my ffl03 and c.o.e.

Also able's ammo, and Brownells and Target sports also accept the exemption.

It took me about 5 week's total to get both and it is so so nice to not have to go to an FFL. But if you do decide to, go to gunfighter tactical.

I recommend getting an FFL03 as well. It's such a pain to pickup ammo for me in SF area, so I got an FFL03. I've been using brownells for most of my ammo for my Vudoo. Everything else I shoot I reload for.

Thanks all for the advice above. Moving to San Diego in OCT and starting the classic "how the fuck do I deal with living in Cali" research..
At least your being proactive about it! I got sent out here for work and now trying to figure it all out after the fact. Hahah.

Welcome to San Diego. There's a really nice group of people shooting long range rifle and some other disciplines through the Santa Margarita Gun Club (https://www.smgunclub.org). They shoot at Camp Pendleton. Hopefully soon when Covid precautions have settle out they will resume.

SMGC primarily shoots Fclass. SDPRC has been helping with their PRS/NRL style matches. we alternate weekends so you can shoot both.

sdprc is 4th sundays at Pala and usually try to do some type of trainups on the first Saturday. Shoot me a PM with your email and I’ll add you to our distro

Bring as many off roster handguns in as you possibly can afford. You’ll thank me later. Newest glocks, sigs, hk, cz.... they sell for a lot more than you’ll pay out of state.

Appreciate all the heads up and advice.

Planning phase 1 now where I have to drop off 80% of what I own at a friend's house in Phoenix because it's all illegal in CA (ARs and NFA items).(n)

Take up reloading. You only need some shelving and a flat space 3’x2’ or so for your press, powder measure, and scale. If you shoot a lot it will save you money, produce better ammo, and it’s fun.

If possible I’d reconsider your move here. You’re gonna be giving up way more that just gun rights.

@chrome , you can make AR type rifles California compliant, in my previous post in this thread I referred the OP to the flowcharts on Calguns.net. But you can either make your rifle featureless (none of the banned features like pistol grip, etc) or fixed magazine (with some kind of magazine lock). NFA items though your pretty much out of luck, the only NFA firearms that I know of being owned here in CA by normal people are AOWs (any other weapon). That one was a Mossberg pump action pistol shotgun with like an 8" barrel which was just about the most unpleasant firearm I've ever shot.

I made mine featureless by drilling and roll pinning the collapsible stock so it's fixed, and putting a Kydex wrap, I used the Solar Tactical wrap, to make the pistol grip not a pistol grip. I also removed the flash hiders and put on muzzle brakes. For my AR pistol, I used the Cross Armory rear pin device and the fixed mag kit. I don't like it because to change a mag, you have to release the rear pin and open the upper/lower receiver. Which means if you have a malfunction, it's really hard to clear. For fixe mag kits, most people use the Cross Armory kit, the AR Maglock, or the Franklin Armory BFM. The Franklin Armory kit though really is truly a fixed mag so to load it you have to load the mag from the top after opening up the receivers. The others allow you to open the receivers which drops the mag and allows you to insert a new mag.

When you get hear, come to Pala and shoot with us, 4th Sunday of the month when the lockdown ends. You can PM me also for more info.
