Rifle Scopes Where do the broken Premiers go?

I just received word that my premier can't be fixed at Tangent Theada. I was fortunate enough to purchase a used one in the wrong serial number range. To the others in this boat, have you found another means to repair them? Or do I own a paperweight now?

Maybe you could contact different manufacturers to see if they might work on it, but I doubt it. To my understanding unfortunately it's now a paperweight. And I think depending on what's wrong with it your biggest issue becomes parts.

There was a thread about this on Scout and I am unable to find it at the moment. I would contact one of the admins to see if you can find it/ get the info as I recall someone having a lead on non TT repairs for Premiers.

Seems like someone or a company with the means to remake the broken parts could have a pretty lucrative business, but what the hell do I know.....lol

Anyone in this sport I hope would not try and take advantage of someone with a broken scope. In this day and age it should be covered under warranty. I realize Premier is out of business but I would pray that for the prices Premiers go for in the PX that it would be parts+labor for any warranty work by a 3rd Party

Yeah, what's wrong with it? Word on the street was that ring placement and pressures could cause issues, maybe vet it in a different set of rings?

Scout is gone, I guess all the threads and everything has been removed so you won't find them. Ask far as the 3rd party, people were sending them to the premier guy in VA (his name escapes me at the moment), but he no longer does repairs. I think it's been said multiple times that premiers are not worth what is being charged for them because of an exact situation like this. No where to go with it. In my humble opinion, at this point buying a premier is just basically throwing away money.

I was thinking more along the lines of if it was an issue in the knobs (external) perhaps its worth trying to repair...what do you have to loose. If it were an internal issue that becomes a bit more dicey as there would be no way to DIY purging or maintaining clean room standards at home.

At the end of the day its a mechanical device and thus there is somebody out there who can fix it provided its not a broken part which was molded (plastic).

Too bad JBW3 isnt at the helm of USO this would be something I bet they would have helped out with back in the day (for a fee of course). He talked me through replacing the reticle in a Unertl and Fecker as well as how to modify the clickers.

Only last thing to offer aside from my sincere sympathy is perhaps the mods can put up a sticky where broken PR owners can pool resources. If there are enough problems similar in nature I'm sure a solution will surface. Or maybe it can turn into a place where people can offload broken scopes and some industrious person can amass a parts reserve sufficient enough to repair others?

Its not junk.

I think in its as is condition its worth a $1000 break on buying a Tangent Theta (or is that only the TT sold units that get the discount?)

What broke on it or what was the mishap so that I can try and keep mine from suffering a similar fate.

The broken premier I have is with the parallax. On the bigger calibers it goes out of focus when the round is sent. When it happens the parallax knob becomes wedged too. Working it back and forth it'll free up and refocus. Makes watching impacts impossible at range. And it's only getting worse so I pulled it off and running a backup. But I sure would like to have my premier back tho...

I've contacted optronics in Germany and they are willing to take a look. But that's a long ways to send a potential paperweight. Kinda want to open it up myself and tighten up ring. But I know it's screwed after trying that once it's purged. Proly just end up running it on a 22 as it can handle that for now.

I was just curious if there was first hand knowledge of anyone getting a premier fixed that TT said isn't in the serial number range.

Also does anyone know the serial number break on which scopes are covered or not?

Well I skimmed through that link, nothing in there helps me that I saw. I was just wondering if someone had success getting theirs repaired somewhere other than TT. As they won't work on this one even for a fee. Also this scope does not qualify for the $1000 credit to upgrade into a TT.

There is a scope company out west that works on older vintage Weavers (T-10, T16 and the like) and Redfields. Some M40 enthusiasts have had them put mil dot reticles in their vintage 3-9X Redfields to make them more modern shooter friendly. Ill see if I can dig up the info they may be able to help.

Tokiwartooth is a scope doctor, apparently self trained, but a wizard at taking various scopes apart and getting them working. He anodized 3-9 Redfields and ahs worked on M84?, taken apart Unertl MST10 and refurbed. Even created his own purging tank for nitro sealing.

Toki just bought himself a Premier 3-15X and would probably like to learn about taking them apart repairing. Perhaps your scope could be his test mule - what have you got to lose?

This is a common problem with the early Premiers, especially the 3 x 15 variety. It manifests itself when pressure from the mounting rings impinges the internals related to the parallax adjustment. If you take it out of the rings and it works fine, you'll have to match a set of rings that specs cap torque value at 15 in/lbs or less such as Badger. To be considered for warranty by TT, it has to been one of the tubes sold through ATI (Armament Technology Incorporated) and only TT can tell you if your serial was distributed through them.

This scope is properly mounted in the heavy set of DT rings and has been for years. This only recently started happening. And only gets stuck upon sending a round down range. Also there is a serial number range mine falls in that doesn't qualify for the 1000 dollar credit as it was assemble in Germany, the way I understand it.

Man I feel for ya. Crying shame the way TT misrepresented the whole warrenty deal. Kinda forced into a TT now tho. and hope TT doesnt go out of business!! ha. ugh

our home owners ins company State Farm has my guns on a schedule (no deductible for a claim). they told me if something happened to my guns and scopes that wasn't covered under a warranty they would pay for damaged goods. I have not had to use this. she told me if my gun was standing up and fell over and scope busted they would cover to replace. all my high end scopes are vortex gen 2 so im not worried about it as vortex will cover them.

Problem is that no "third party" is going to have the parts to repair a Premier Reticles scope.

Their original production facility is located about 10 miles from where I live and for that reason, I've owned four of them. Even when they sold out to (ATI (I think) in Canada, the repairs were still done by Paul Lange here in Winchester so life was gooooood.

I don't any of them now and regret not having one but at this juncture, I'd have to opt for something different.

Not so any more. TT will service some of the newer Premiers distributed on their watch but sooner or later, they will run out of parts for those too which (I guess) will put you into the $1K discount on a new one group.
